That said, you brought up a memory. I too remember that in our era, and up until around 1980, in my hometown all spankings in elementary school were bare bottom and over the principal's knee. Which meant more than one boy or girl who at twelve might have been entering puberty, was being bared then put over an adult knee, and soundly spanked. Now once in Junior High it was the paddle over your jeans (except in gym class).

What I am vividly remembering was that in another rural town close to us, they had to combine classes as they were tearing down an unsafe junior high, meaning that for several years kids in grades one through eight attended classes at the elementary school building- it was the bigger building. With the nineth graders going to High School a year earlier than planned. Therefore, there only one principal was needed.

Anyway, the principal at the combined school was not only female - not that unusual back in the day, especially for a grade school - but what stands out is that she spanked all of her students the same! Yes, you read that correctly, she was baring fourteen-year-old boys and putting them over her knee and spanking them! And the rumor was no matter how tuff you thought you were, you weren't getting off her knee until she had sobs and cries, if not always tears. But what amazed the 'older children' was that their parents, they didn't raise an eyebrow! It didn't matter that you were fourteen, and male, if you acted up enough to get a spanking, well, you got what you deserved. Didn't matter who was giving you the spanking. Much less how they were giving it to you.

I remember hearing that and all but shuttering as bad enough my own mom was still spanking me at that age, the last thing I wanted was another woman baring me and spanking me.


Now what people may not realize is that all too often the fantasies of 2026, were the horror stories parents used to scare their kids with in 1986, yet those same stories, those were reality for those of us from the previous generations. As eight or eighteen, if you were still in school you were still considered a 'child' and everyone knew that children, they answered to the adults. And that sometimes, the answering happened on a bare bottom. And that the child's age, well, that was irrelevant.
