Well maybe you are right. But why you are not sure if the boys could wear swimming trunks as well if they like?

A friend of mine by the way who was born and raised in Latvia in East Europe in 80s told me once when we were talking about this that in her preschool (they called it kindergarten) all the girls were required(!) to wear swimming trunks or swim suits for their (mixed, for both girls and boys) swimming classes while it was somewhy optional for the boys. In fact, she tells, almost all the boys were naked for the swimming. But later, at elementary school, all the children already were required to wear swimsuits.
Actually her country back then had a lot of interesting gender differences for girls and boys in the nurture and education. In her summer camp they girls were routinely assigned to bathe the younger children, both the girls and the boys in the showers as a duty. And no one even think to ask the older boy to bathe the little ones. She tells she was feeling a kind of weird when she was assigned for this for the first time at 11 and she noticed a few boys nearly her age among the other naked boys lined up in front of them in the showers waiting for their turn.
