  • Every day is a winding road
-- Head Quarters going on, 07:22:37 10/03/06 Tue
It was a busy, bustling day at the headquarters. Friday, which was pay day, always meant very few people skipping work and there was just always a lot of wrapping up the work week kinda stuff so in the late afternoon, around fourish, the place was packed with people. The hallways always had people in them, almost every office had someone at the desk and there were tons of people in the cafeteria and in the gym, it was just a happy place to be at the moment, if busy. At the moment, Haylie was working in the intelligence center but was getting sleepy so she decided to head up to the top level where the rooms were and catch a nap. She left a note for Kyr to tell him where she would be - him and Braden had gone to get food for her and Reese - and then disappeared to go curl up in bed. She'd been really, really sick the day before and was just starting to feel better that morning so she had come into work with her boyfriend. Remy was hard at work in his office, being withdrawn as was the norm for the past couple of weeks and that was the reason Skeeter was so thoughtful as he was shooting some hoops in the gym. He got restless a lot, thanks to his ADHD and so at random intervals during the day he would head down to the gym to shoot hoops, run around the gym for a while or swim some laps in the pool - just to get rid of some pent up energy. He was thinking about what could possibly be causing his friend to act so withdrawn, even Shay had asked Skeeter if there was anything going on at work that could cause it. Shaking his head at those thoughts, he pursed his lips and looked around, wondering what was taking Reese so long to get down there to play with him for a bit. He enjoyed the girls company, she was sweet and fresh and so much older than her age. Shifting, he went for a lay up, congratulating himself when he made it easily.

  • I did what I had to do because I care about you..
    -- Reese, 07:38:03 10/01/06 Sun
(When she arrived from school, she typically went straight up to the room that Braden and Kyrian shared as an office to drop off her bags. That usually signaled the end of working and the beginning of an extended leave of video game playing. She loved that the two of them were basically big kids, it was entertaining to get into an argument with Skeeter about who had cheated at what, or to spank Braden at Counter Strike. Yeah, that was her typical before dinner break.. and that afternoon would have been no different had she not had such a heavy ache in her heart. She was worried about Braden.. he'd been having those night terrors more often.. twice since the night he had assaulted her.. and she still had the faint marks on her wrists to prove it nearly a week later. She had tried to go to him the second time, but he had been so angry and fierce looking and when she had neared his bedside he had yelled at something.. well, it had scared the hell out of her and she had run back into her room and shut the door, curling up at the top of the bed. Listening to him growl and thrash in his bed had been rough on her, tearing her apart because she couldn't do anything.. she was small and powerless around someone like him. She had ended up sitting there for nearly an hour listening to him, until he had finally woken and then she had heard him wandering about for a little bit. The second time hadn't been any better.. and well, she was worried that if he went on this mission it would be worse.. or that he could hurt himself.. She wasn't aware of moving through the building at all, that was how far lost in thought she had been.. but it was enough that she was looking across a large office and a wide expanse of oak desk to the man she had come to see. She knocked a couple of times on the door frame, and he looked up as thogh he had been expecting her, waving her in and pointing to one of the chairs before his desk. For the next two hours they talked.. sometimes somberly and sometimes with amusement.. Remy just had a way of lightening her mood. Once they were finished, she slipped out of his office and went upstairs to find Braden in his office. She walked in quietly, setting her bag on the floor and flopping down on the sofa to rest her eyes.. for some reason she felt like a big weight was off her chest while at the same time a huge knot of nerves was in her stomach.) I am never eating at Phillies again. (She groaned out, mentioning the place they had gotten dinner from the night before.)

  • We all need a proud woman
    My oh My
    -- Haylie/Skeeter, 08:24:12 09/30/06 Sat
She had woken up that morning feel pretty sore and achy and then lost the dinner she had eaten the night before. Of course, this had her sleepy boy-toy worried and threatening to call the doctor if she didn’t go to bed. She had learned over the past five months that it was easier to just let him take care of her in the way he saw best than argue with him so she had crawled back into bed and pulled up the covers, giving him a kiss goodbye and sending him to work without her. She knew Remy would be ok with it, since he had gone through it all with Shay and didn’t have any problems falling right back asleep. Eleven o’clock rolled around and she stirred, realizing she felt a good deal better. Thanks to that, she was antsy and so got up, got dressed in a pair of jeans and a hoodie and put on a pair of flip flops before she grabbed the keys and headed out to work. If she was feeling better, in her mind, there was no reason to waste the day away in bed. She pulled into the parking garage, made small talk with the guard before pulling up to her parking spot near the elevator. Checking to make sure she had everything was easily done since all she had brought with her was her cell and her keys and within moments she was upstairs and heading towards the intel’s head office where Skeeter would be if he was actually working and not off playing computer games with Braden. Those two were such overgrown children. She nodded at Skeeter, rubbing her eyes a little as she yawned and padded over to one massive wall of computers and sat down, flipping on the power and waiting for everything to boot up. He watched her come in, a smile on his face as he noted that she was WAY bigger than Gia was and they were about as far along. Gia was smaller boned though and he wasn’t as big Kyrian was either so maybe the baby was just bigger. He had heard Kyrian muttering something about his girlfriend having a litter and that had made him smirk, Haylie would have his balls if she heard that and then problem start crying desperately. She’d been so sick during the pregnancy though, so many days she just stayed in bed feeling miserable and the mood swings...no one ever knew what would set her off and make her start bawling. The only one who had been able to somehow figure out what kind of mood she was in was Cael, he would swear the man was psychic sometimes. Shaking his head, he picked up his phone and called down to Remy’s office, knowing Kyrian would be in there. “Hey boss man. We have a code four here.” Over the past five months they had little codes for things that Haylie was doing since nearly everyone in the building watched over her and coddled her like crazy. “Jester’s little chickadee looks like she’s about to fall asleep on the keyboard and she just walked in.”

  • I've never looked for trouble but I've never ran
I don't take no orders from no kind of man
I'm only made of flesh blood and bone
But if you wanna start a rumble boy....
You best not start it alone
    -- Braden, 05:17:43 09/24/06 Sun
He was kicked back in his chair, his eyes on the couch where Skeeter and Reese were playing video games. He had been leaving her to get off to school on her own until he had gotten a call from her guidance counselor that she had been skipping classes so now he made her come directly here after school and dropped her off there in the morning before he came to work. All he needed was a fucking mini-van and he would nominated for mother of the year. Though..a mother wouldn't get a hard on everytime she got out of the shower. So, yeah, maybe no award for him. His phone rang and he dragged his eyes away from her, picking it up with usual greeting of "Hunter" before he was quiet and then nodded a little. "Alright, yeah, just have Courtney come up here." He smirked as he saw Skeeter's eyes brighten and his head lift a little at Courtney's name - no one else would have noticed that accept maybe Remy and Skeeter himself if he had been observing someone else. He let out a soft breath and shrugged his shoulders to loosen up the muscles in his shoulders and neck before he hung up the phone. "Remy is coming up here to talk to us about an assignment." He stated, thinking it would probably be him and Courtney on the mission and then Skeeter during the intel from here. Remy didn't make it sound like it was a big deal though, so he wasn't to concerned with that. Leaning back in his chair, he kicked up his feet once more and placed his arms behind him, his eyes going back to Reese as she played the PS2.

  • Burn me once, Shame on you...
    -- Justin, 06:14:29 09/18/06 Mon
Gia had been cleared for release. He wasn't sure how he felt about that, if he trusted her enough to allow her to live on her own and still take care of herself and his child. She was nearing five months along now, her body was swollen with his baby and yet they still hadn't felt any movements and that had him worried. Haylie was three months along and she was showing almost as much as Gia was...that couldn't be a good thing, could it? He wasn't so sure about a lot of this stuff but he did know he got on his knee's every night, praying to god that his kid was alright. He had spent the morning getting an apartment for Gia, paying it off for a year and then getting her a car and things so that she would be equipped to go to her therapy sessions and her doctors appointments if he wasn't available to take her and then had gotten groceries and stocked up the place. He had purchased everything he thought she would need, hairbrush, toothbrush, all sorts of things like that and the place was totally ready to be moved into. He hadn't told her he was doing all this but he felt obligated to, he had to take care of his baby and in turn, her. He wanted her to just get her life together and on the right path again. So, he was on his way to pick her up and then get her settled before he went over to Courtneys and picked her up to go out to the movies and dinner. Geeze. How the hell did he get himself into these situations? Shaking his head, he headed down the psych ward and towards her room, pushing the door open and leaning against the frame as he watched her finish gathering her things. "You've been packing for like an hour, it's not like you have that much stuff here." He didn't mean to be gruff, he just was so torn and betrayed feeling when it came to her that all his walls went up and his defense mechanisms were on high alert.

  • Last Goodbye
    -- Justin Mallenock, 09:12:13 07/22/06 Sat
    This is our last goodbye
I hate to feel the love between us die
    But it's over
Just hear this and then i'll go
You gave me more to live for
    More than you'll ever know

    This is our last embrace
Must I dream and always see your face
Why can't we overcome this wall
Well, maybe it's just because i didn't know you at all

It was time. The phrase sounded so ominous to him, like the time had been waiting around to for it to be 'the time' and it was finally there. He had been putting this off and putting it off and now he knew he couldn't avoid it anymore. He'd tried to spend all of his time with Courtney - she made him happy. She was simple, there was nothing hidden or complicated her. What you saw was what you got and he appreciated that. Hell, he needed that. He needed someone to help his complex mind rest for awhile, to bring out the light hearted, goof ball side of him that had been missing for the past near year. Absently, pure habit, he shifted to lift his right hand, typing in his security code and then letting the system do a retinal scan before passing through the huge steel doors that spread across the hallway in this wing. Maybe he should have brought Courtney with him. She would have understood, she would have held his hand and comforted him, given him strength to get through this confrontation. Confrontation. He didn't know it would be a confrontation but with Gia...he just had a strong feeling that was exactly what it was going to be. They had been home for six weeks and he just couldn't put off talking to her anymore. Some things just needed to be said, decided, discussed...such as the child she was carrying that was possibly his. His baby. He had never thought about kids, never thought if he wanted them or if he didn't but suddenly there was a possiblity that there was a tiny little human - like chase - who could be made of his genes. He could have his eyes or his nose or maybe the birthmark that he carried on his lower hip that looked like a four leaf clover. He couldn't just ignore the fact that Gia was carrying his baby anymore than the fact that he had at one time been falling deeply in love with Gia. He had been thinking about the white picket fence with her, he had wanted to have her as his own, to take care of her, to protect her from the world but she hadn't wanted any of that. When they were in Bangkok she said she had, that she had been scared...at least thats what he thought she said, he didn't really remember a whole lot of that near traumatizing time.

    Kiss me, please kiss me
But kiss me out of desire, babe, and not consolation
You know it makes me so angry 'cause i know that in time
I'll only make you cry, this is our last goodbye

Either way, actions spoke louder than words and her actions had screamed out that she didn't want or need him to take care of her, to love her, to coddle her as a man in love wanted to do for the woman who had acquired his attention and affections. Maybe that was why he had moved so willingly into Courtney's bed...because she was such the opposite of Gia. Courtney appreciated and welcomed his protective attitude, she loved how he took charge in bed, she wanted his touch. He had tried so hard with Gia, so damn hard and it just hadn't been enough - that was a huge blow to his ego. It hurt to think he wasn't enough, what the hell else did she want from him? Shaking his head, he forced away his angry thoughts - anger would do him no good right then, not when he was seeing her for the first time in six weeks. With a smile, he turned on the charm and leaned over the counter to talk to the receptionist to the psych ward. Half the nurses around her were falling over their feet for his rakish grin, his sparkling eyes and his over-confident-but-oh-so-sexy attitude and were willing to give him the files of hers that he requested. He didn't open them though, just thanked them with a smile and wink and sauntered off down the hall to her room. Pausing at the door, he took a few deep breaths to calm his pounding heart (though he looked the picture of cool, confident and cocky) before he pushed open the door, not bothering to knock. In a psych ward, manners weren't really of the utmost importance.

    Did you say
No, this can't happen to me
And did you rush to the phone to call
    Is there a voice unkind
In the back of your mind
Saying maybe you didn't know him at all
You didn't know him at all
    Oh didn't know
    Oooh didn't know

Oh the bells out in the church tower chime
Burnin' clues into this heart of mine
Thinking so hard on her soft eyes
    And the memories offer signs
    That it's over...it's over

In my hear there'll always be a place for you for all my life
I'll keep a part of you with me
And everywhere I am there you'll be..
    -- Reese, 06:43:34 06/13/06 Tue
(The officer groaned as he got out of the car, his fucking shin was killing him. The little brat had kicked him a little less than an hour ago and he was sure he was going to have a huge knot there. His green eyes scanned the area as he crossed to the other side of the car and opened the door, ready for the little hellcat to spit and hiss at him.. but surprisingly enough, she merely stepped out of the car demurely and stood there looking up at the huge modern brick and glass building. For a moment, Patrick O'Malley actually felt bad for having handcuffed her hands behind her back, but he had a large welt on his cheek to remind him why he couldn't fall for her cute little girl routine. She wasn't as young as she looked, and she wasn't as sweet either.. she might be nearing eighteen but she didnt look a day over sixteen if that, and she had claws on her that would send a lynx running for cover. She turned her glassy blue-grey eyes on him and he shook his head, he wasn't falling for her precious moment's looks anymore.) Let's get ye goin' lassie. (He said in a watered down irish lilt, picking up her bag and slinging it over his shoulder before taking her arm in his hand and leading her up to the building. Once inside, he questioned the guard, who told him that he could find Braden Nichols on the fourth floor, right wing.. and he led the now quiet teen to the elevators.) (A strand of her brassy auburn hair had gotten into her mouth and was stuck to the lipgloss on her full lower lip and it was annoying the hell out of her almost as much as the "pretend-a-cop" they had sent to haul her off to what amounted to juvie hall. She couldn't believe they were throwing her ass into a home.. even if this guy was a friend of her.. Kee.. God, she missed him.. it burned inside her like a hot knife and made her ache so desperately that she wanted to scream at someone to bring him back. Her brother couldn't be gone! He was her hero, her protector.. her life. He'd been laughing and joking with her before he left for duty and she'd been so sad to see him go, but he had promised to come home.. and now he had come home, in a box. She huffed, trying to blow the stand of hair out of her mouth again without success and nearly tripping as she got off the elevator on the fourth floor since she wasn't paying attention. Her wrists hurt, this jackass was lucky she wasn't tall enough to kick him in the crotch while her hands were behind her back or he would have a seriously hard time reproducing for what he had done to her. So what if she had attacked him.. she had had no idea who was breaking into the apartment she lived in with her brother.. and when he had found her hiding in the closet she had fiercely fought back, scared out of her mind. And now, she was looking pretty stupid in handcuffs and being marched down the hall like a damn four year old caught stealing cookies. She glared a guy who stared at her, probably because her well developed breasts were all but spilling out of her top from the way her hands were held back, but she didnt realize that and stuck her tongue out at him insolently. When the officer knocked on the door of a room that had 'Nichols' and 'Sutherland' on the door tags, she sighed in frustration and wished she could just get the hell out of her.. she wished Keegan would come for her.)

    -- Skeeter, 08:45:05 06/10/06 Sat
He let a soft sigh when Remy left and then spent some time just straightening up his office, getting paper work filed and filled up, things sent out and filling orders for some equipment some of the other agents needed. Forlornely, he looked at the movie schedule, wondering when the last time he had just gone to the movies was. A low breath escaped his lips as he ran his hand over his head and finally, about an hour later, headed out of this office, closing the door and locking it behind him. He shifted his leather bag, placing the strap across his chest. He was clad casually that day in jeans and a button up white shirt and currently looked more like a college student then a secret agent but at least he was comfortable. After thinking about it for a few minutes, he headed towards the elevator that lead to the dorm style rooms where the agents stayed sometimes and went up to the floor where Courtney was staying. For a second, he hesitated outside her door before knocking lightly and then shifting his weight as he waited for an answer. He couldn't exactly say why he was there, he was just encouraging feeling on both their parts but he couldn't help it, he was feeling drawn to her and he was never one to deny himself anything.

Gia had pretty much just sent him pitiful looks the whole way home and he had made sure to sit himself far away from her on the plane. As soon as they got here, he had turned her over to the medical team and hurried off to his office after making sure that Courtney was comfortable with everything in her room and that Braden had been checked out for god knew what STD he could have picked up while over there and any airborne illnesses or anything like that. Satisfied that his team was taken care of, he had disappeared into his office to call Remy only to find out that they were at the hospital with Kyrian and Haylie - who as if yet hadn't woken up - and Remy would be there shortly to speak to him. With everything settled, he was sitting at his desk, his feet propped up, clad in a slightly mussed suit with an open collared shirt, playing with his yo-yo. He looked much like the Skeeter of old and he was determined to find that man that he had once been again, he had let himself get to serious over the past two years and he didn't really like it, now that he thought back on it all...

But I'm closin' my eyes and driving through
    -- Shaylin McLean, 05:42:57 05/09/06 Tue
She bit her lip heavily, pacing the apartment absently. She was getting so lonely here, she had no friends with everyone gone and her husband hadn't been home in three days and she had barely even talked to him. Her son had been fussing and whimpering for god knew how long and she was literally about to snap. Earlier that day, she had pulled out her suitcases and packed her things and then pulled out a duffle bag to pack some of Chase's. Now all she had to do was call Remy and tell him her plans. He really shouldn't be upset over it, it wasn't like he was home to see them anyways, what different did it make if they were here or in RD? After working up her courage, she picked up the phone, letting it ring a few times before she asked to be transferred to Commander McLean. Her pacing continued, the cell phone tucked between her ear and shoulder as her eyes rested on the baby. She just really wanted her parents, she wanted to be with her family, she hadn't even seen Brooke's newest baby and her dad was complaining about not being able to see his baby's baby grow up. Chase was so big already compared to when he had been born, so many changes, holding up his head and smiling and such...she wanted her family to see him and she was just so tired of being alone already - she didn't think she could handle much more of it.

What a fucking day. His girlfriend who wasn't even his girlfriend because she couldn't commit to anything, much less him, was working in a different fucking country as a sex slave, his friend had almost died from some strange virus and he was just exhausted and aggravated. Not to mention the fact that the woman he had been in love with for over a year was sleeping in his bed and he couldn't touch her and she was dating a guy who didn't even appreciate her enough to show up to their own wedding. Life was great. His hand raked through his hair as he shifted, patting his pockets to find the ever present - recently - pack of cigarettes. Heading out to his office, he grabbed a bottle of brandy and took the whole bottle with him, along with the cigarettes, outside the main door, leaning against the wall and staring out at the parking lot.
