Welcome to Dress Whites And Roses, a message board for the discussion of the television show JAG, especially the relationship between Commander Harmon Rabb, Jr. and Lieutenant Colonel Sarah MacKenzie. A few rules and regulations -

- ABSOLUTELY no "bashing" or "flaming" of others. Please respect everyone's right to express their opinion, whether it is positive or negative. Debate is welcome and encouraged. However, all discussion will take place in a polite and respectful manner.  I have been bashed myself for expressing my opinion in other forums (the raison d'ètre for this board's creation) and will not let it happen to anyone here. Just remember that this is a shipper board, so that will be the predominant opinion expressed here. Also, expressing your opinion in a polite and respectful manner extends to discussions of those associated with the show. Criticism is welcome, as long as it is not unduly harsh (resorting to name-calling, for instance).

- No obscene language.  You may want to expression your dislike of something, but please refrain from using four-letter words to do it.

- Taking a cue from The Harmy Board, innuendo and double entendres will be allowed. What else would you expect with a couple this hot? There are other forums for those who are underage and I encourage people who fall into that category to visit those. I will ban any underage posters that I discover. However, although we are all adults, no explicit sexual references, please. What you feel comfortable talking about may be a little much for other posters.

  Veterans (DAV) Department of Florida Commanders Special Recognition

  portrayal" of an amputee on "JAG."
  
  The Disabled American Veterans are honoring Patrick in Orlando, Florida
  at their state convention on June 5th to June 8th. They have invited
  Patrick to accept his award in person, as well as to do a meet and greet
  with the disabled veterans who are very eager to meet their hero in

    • I think you've pretty well covered it, Tracy, and I agree with almost everything you said. My biggest reaction after last night's viewing was letdown. Neither story got enough time to really develop, and I was left with all sorts of questions. What were the reactions of the JAG crew to Harm's exoneration? Who really was the baby's father?     • One thing I did like about the epsidoe was when Viv tried to apologize for almost blowing the bust and Gibbs says "almost?" However if the show is picked up I think they should call it CSI-NCIS because it really comes across to me as a knock off of CSI and CSI-Miami. Except CSI and CSI-Miami have better characters!     • We all have our opinions of *how* NC landed the role on JAG, & in all probability, her contract was probably tied to DJE's, & quite honestly, I am STUNNED that TPTB had the guts to eliminate her role, cause I didn't see it happening. I'm glad it did, never cared for the actress or the character, but am also glad DJE & DB reached an agreement for S9 & S10. I was just trying to answer your TN question, because it has been asked on several of the lists, & Kip (the show insider who answers questions) pretty much stated emphatically that DB didn't care for TN, & that she wouldn't be back in a cameo as Meg Austin. I here you on the family thing, just look at DB, his kids have had roles in JAG, his wife had a cameo in Need to Know, so I agree with you, its not uncommon at all. • I know I 'll probably be a bit lonely here but I will regret Singer character. 1) I liked NC and I 'll miss her 2) Singer was wicked & bad ok, but it enabled some good moments when she tried to harm Mac (it was cute when H went after her & threatened her if she tried to put M in troubles again), by his attempt to protect her, we saw he cared for her (and it's not every ep so..) 3) it was good to see a real "mean" character (it was favorable to the others in comparison) 4) (last but not least) by being "mean", she was not a threat to H/M couple, I wish I could say so with the newbies coming! -- sarahrabb33, 12:30:47 04/23/03 Wed

  • Hey its okay!! You're entitled to your opinion of Singer, LOL!! I wish I could agree with you, but I don't. I won't miss NC one bit, I won't miss the character one bit, & even though there could've been better ways of handling Singer's demise, I'm not complaining that we are finally rid of not only Singer but NC as well.   Okay overall the episode was okay. It didn't have any science stuff that made me want to puke like Ice Queen (I watch CSI and Ice Queen grossed me out more than CSI has ever managed to.) I do have one MAJOR problem with the episode though.
  They didn't write in CB's pregnancy because they thought something was wrong with Mac being a single mom. Okay but was in necessary to make Singer a slut? Maybe it's a poor choice of words but she had sex with at least 3 guys. Harm thought Sergei could be the dad,(and he admitted to sleeping with her. at least that's how I took the one night stand comment) Lindsay thought he was, and the DNA said neither was. In most of the world that meets the definition of a slut. And what really annoys me is there was no reason for it. What would it have hurt to have made Lindsay or Sergei the dad? Or to find out that all Sergei and Lauren did was have dinner and talk? Nothing. It would have taken nothing from the story. IMO

  Can anyone give me a good suggestion? I am in desperate need of a new computer, been shopping for weeks. Now I am so confused. Do I get a cheap one, do I get a media center, and today when the sales guy asked me what I do on a computer, when I told him I read Jag message boards, he told me to get a laptop.   Most of you have probably seen the press release about Karri Turner and John M. Jackson going to Ft. Hood today as part of a children's festival, sponsored by the USO. Well, as some of you know, I live in Arlington TX, which is two hours north of Ft. Hood (well, it is if you're driving 80MPH the whole way) and I went down there today. Both are the nicest people. I got my picture taken with both of them, shot some video of them signing autographs and a talk Karri gave when she and John were first introduced, and got both their autographs. I have to go to church this afternoon, but look for scans of the photos, captures from the video and a full description sometime tonight.

• Handling CB's pregnancy -- Jennifer, 22:22:12 04/16/03 Wed
  Does anyone else think they have misused CB's pregnancy. I'm glad they didn't make her pregnant on the show, don't get me wrong but they chose to deal with it by just not showing her. I mean we get like 5 minutes of Mac per episode. How many actresses on how many shows have been pregnant and things just kept rolling on. Just seems like there are better ways to have dealt with it. And the thing where they had to completely scrap the storyline they claim to have originally planned seemed a bit extreme as well. Seems to me like they used it as a cop out on a lot of stuff.

  • You're preaching to the choir here, but I honestly think they've been misusing CB quite a bit for the last few years. For an entire year she was more Mic's significant other than JAG officer, then she got stuck on cases like the peeping tom (Ambush) and sitting on the sidelines while Harm went flying (The Mission - honestly, what was the point of her being on the Sea Hawk - were two of them really needed for the briefing).   • I totally agree Tracy. CB/Mac has been cast aside in the past couple of seasons, just not S8 alone. It started when TPTB insisted on pursuing the whole Mic/Mac fiasco, & it turned like Tracy said Mac from a Marine/JAG officer into nothing other than a paper pusher/Mic's other. Mac's storylines for the most part had to revolve around Mic, & it IMHO really wasn't fair to the Mac character.   • I agree that I really have missed Mac, but from what I've read it sounded like she was requesting less airtime - I know a lot of women work through their pregancy but it seems like she really wanted to try hard to relax and work less.           • I disagree with the allowing Singer to give birth before her death angle. Not that I *ever* want to see a child harmed/killed, but this angle for JAG doesn't work for me. Whose going to raise Singer's kid? Harm? He's still convinced its Sergei's, & with Sergei being in Russia, well sorry, I don't want to see JAG with Harmon Rabb raising a child.               • Oh I agree with that statement, that the Peterson case really did make this ep stand out more shall we say? Its just horrible what happened to that poor woman & her baby boy, & it is a shame again that TPTB decided to go this route. It would've made no difference to me in the story arc *if* Singer hadn't of been pregnant. I mean let's face it, Singer had enough enemies IMHO on her own, you didn't need to make her pregnant, but again thats the arc DB chose (so NC could remain at JAG for a while) & I just think it would've been better if Singer hadn't of been pregnant.     • Pas De Deux is the episode before the the cliffhanger, not the cliffhanger itself. Also, Alicia is correct - these are junior officers. It was a very good idea to write it from Mic's POV, it shows all H & M share together, things that Mic and Mac never had, the poor guy, I almost feel sympathetic for him. • Since I am not American and do not see Season 8 eps, Could anyone tell me if in Ice Queen, the police will find a "still pregnant" Singer : i.e. she'll die and so will her baby or did she have already had her baby then, I imagine that someone will have to take care of the baby!?   Hello everyone! This is my first post here and I'm psyched to have found this place as I don't have anywhere to post for JAG without getting flamed:) I have just been so immensely disappointed in JAG this season. I've actually skipped episodes which is something I haven't done since Brumby and Mac were engaged. If you'll indulge me just let me tell you why I don't like the show in it's current condition. I think the scripts are weak and cliched, I think there is too much focus on secondary characters, I think they have handled CB's pregnancy in a bad manner (in this respect I understand that they are limited but I was a fan of the X-Files where Gillian Anderson's pregnancy was used so brilliantly so my expectations are kind of high). My main reason for discourse this season besides the lack of Harm and Mac interaction is the broadening of the cast. I loved the show when it was just Harm, Mac, AJ, Bud and Harriet with the occassional other people. Sturgis is okay. Manetti, Singer, Serger get on my nerves. I just think there are too many storylines going on and the main stars are all out of focus. Anyway, forgive the long post but I had to get his off my chest. :)

  Hi everyone: I have just been reading all of the messages on this new site......And I really love it. I hope it will continue to be here for all of us who are shippers.
  
  I have detected that some of us are not too happy with this season 8. I know I'm very disappointed....I'll always watch, however, but after the ep I've sat and thought about what was wrong. And DB is unhappy.....like KH said, where has he been?????? This is a wonderful show and DB and the writers are, as far as I'm concerned, letting down the cast with the scripts they are writing. Where is all the excitement, the suspense, the shipper moments between Harm and Mac. (they hardly are seen together anymore...they are like casual friends)!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  Harm and Mac and all the rest of the cast are doing a great job.......it's the material they have to work with. It's almost like a great show to have law students learn how to get some knowledge in the court room. Let's face it, there have been more court room scenes and strickly caseloads discussed than anything else.......and I can remember reading on CB message board before this season started that this is what DB had planned on doing. Well he did it and look at the ratings and I really feel badly for the cast that works l4 and l6 hour days to get the job done. Can't someone tell DB what's happening? His spin off show must be very important to him to let a show like JAG go down hill like it is doing. This really disturbs me...

  • Well said and I heartily concur. I wiIl sum up the Jag disasters in my own observation. Kip stated all the actors are bored-tired etc...that could be the few factors but the main ones are: predictable band cases-lack of character development but more out of character in our heroes-nonstop dangling on again off again Harm and Mac romance( all their yearly excuses)-casting blunders-Sergei/Manetti/Singer should have lots of days off.- CSI spotlights (giant who cares). It's been posted that in the last episode of the season Harm may say something like this, if they leave in off the cutting room floor. But to who and when and how he says it no one knows. It is assumed it will be Mac, but she will be in South America undercover and not within phone access.   The oddest thing happened to me when I was sleeping last night. I was in the middle of a ship, sorting papers. I have no idea what the papers were, just that they were boring and even reading them wasn't helping make the task go by any faster.
  
  I looked up and I saw a woman ... I knew it was Catherine Bell. At the same time, I knew that she wasn't playing Mac on JAG. Oh, no no no no NO. She was playing Mac from DOALS. This amused me greatly and I spent the rest of the dream following her around, snickering.

  I've noticed on some other boards and thru fanfic that most feel Harm is to blame for messing up the realtionship. I kinda feel he wants the Real Thing with Mac but isn't sure that he won't end up being one of her "mistakes". Watching recent reruns on USA & CBS this week, it seems like Harm has had a hard time dealing with Mac's past relationships. He has had her on this pedestal of perfectness and I think her affair with Farrow, then her quick turn to Mic has him unsure of more than just her not returning his feelings.

She made a mistake with Farrow when she was young, and only turned to Mic after he pushed her away. Harm's had more relationships than I can count, way more than Mac. Take Commander Pike and Bobbi Latham, they were just a one night stand for him. In Harm's eye's no one has ever been good enough for Mac. You can never go wrong with aerogirl and Valerie Jones and they just wrote a story together "What's Past is Prolouge" they're releasing it a few chapters at a time on the FF board www.voy.com/16466/.   Harm and Mac and all the rest of the cast are doing a great job.......it's the material they have to work with. It's almost like a great show to have law students learn how to get some knowledge in the court room. Let's face it, there have been more court room scenes and strickly caseloads discussed than anything else.......and I can remember reading on CB message board before this season started that this is what DB had planned on doing. Well he did it and look at the ratings and I really feel badly for the cast that works l4 and l6 hour days to get the job done. Can't someone tell DB what's happening? His spin off show must be very important to him to let a show like JAG go down hill like it is doing. This really disturbs me...
  
  I've had another thought, AJ can admit that he is in love with Meredith.......than why can't Harm admit it....unless our Shocker ep is going to be that AJ is leaving the show? Something to think about, I guess.

  • Hey Gloria! The ratings are holding, the only "dip" is when American Idol is on....JAG IMHO has been given a gift with very little competition, & it does have a very loyal & faithful audience. I kinda remember the same thing happening in S6, DB was so wrapped up in First Monday that he IMHO didn't pay enough attention to JAG, & the ratings IMHO did slip in S6, with the whole dragging on of the whole M/M fiasco & the fact that FM was time consuming.   Just saw this message from Kip on another board. It was discussing directors, etc. But the last line read:
  
  "DPB has not been happy with performances of late and is making it known."
  
  In another message, in response to a question regarding the above, Kip indicated that DPB's displeasure was with episodes that have aired and with some that haven't.
  
  It seems that everyone has opinions regarding Tuesday's episode of "Friendly Fire" and most of them aren't complimentary to how Harm acted, how Mac acted or how both acted in the context of the show. I wonder if the final version of "Friendly Fire" didn't turn out the way the "boss" expected it to? I wonder if he had another vision of how Harm and Mac were to conduct themselves. Or, he might just be just commenting on his actors performances in general. Any thoughts?

  Tracy - like the change on the home page.
  I had this wild hair hit yesterday...I am still trying to figure out the "purpose" for Manetti, so I thought what if she is the mole. Harm had her trying to find out who Singer was with just before she left for the Seahawk, Manetti dosen't know Sergei so she wouldn't know who the sandy haired guy is. Lindsay gets word of this and all he knows is the overheard conversation in the bar that it's a Rabb baby......and the shocker is Lindsay is Singer's father/stepfather?????? Anybody know any reason's why Lindsay might not be a relative of some sort? Or why this theory won't work?

I know there was an episode where there'd been a mutiny several hundred years ago that was being reconsidered, so maybe the book could fit into another one.   I was reading spoilers...I know they have to work around RL but at least give us some email love notes! It's proven they know how (remember Bud & Harriett & Coates). This has not been a good season. Seems to me they were riding high 2 years ago and are now losing it because they are afaid the show will end if it gets shippery. I remember Magnum. It did end way before it went off the air because it became extremely boring and somehow made the star of the show seem less appealing. IMHO this show is heading that way. You can't keep people motivated with a single kiss per year and nothing in-between!

  Tracy: So good to have you back. I completely understand your frustration, but I do hope that your "muse" returns and that you continue your fanfic. Especially finishing "Drifting on a Lonely Sea". I just read it over the weekend and I do think this is on of the best pieces of fanfic that I have ever read. I have thoroughly enjoyed all your work and have anxiously awaited the conclusion (?) of DOALS. I do hope that you can find it in your heart to finish this piece for those of us who love it so much. As another poster mentioned, as it stands now, poor Harm is out of surgery and Mac is left to try and pick up the pieces around her. A conclusion to this story is definitely needed. I do understand your feelings regarding plagerism and I concur with another poster who suggested that you e-mail your fanfics out to those of us who truly appreciate it and wouldn't ever violate your rights as a writer to use your work without proper acknowledgement.   • We have 7 eps left in S8.....May will have four of those eps, April will probably have 2 & March may have only 1. The reason for the repeats is in March CBS shows a lot of College Basketball, & JAG & other shows are probably going to get "bumped" in favor of sports. Not sure about April, but I think its been said that we may get a new ep on 3/14, & then repeats, then another two in April leading us to May sweeps. I *know* we don't have to go until the end of April for a new ep, but with basketball & other specials, there will be a lot of re-runs thrown into the mix. Hope this helps!   Oh... my... gawd... THat's all I have to say. I am totally and completely disgusted with the "Friendly Fire" episode. I am absolutely shocked that the writers of this episode would think that the Canadian viewers of this program would not be insulted. That really happened. Real Canadians died. How dare that they let the defence win that case. Even if it was a mistake, those pilots should have AT LEAST be discharged. Personally, I'm sick at the writers of this episode, I'm sick at the way that they took the characters I love (especially Harm) and made them enemies in my eyes. There are losers here, the families of the soldiers who died.

How is Harm the enemy for pointing out a reason why the pilot could have mistaken the generator malfunctioning as enemy fire. The defence won but the pilot is grounded.   I tried not to think about the real life case that inspired this episode. That case is still in the middle of its court proceedings and we don't know yet how it will turn out (personally, I think the real life aviators went over the line, but of course, I'm not privy to all of the evidence in the case).
  
  Looking at the episode strictly from a characterization standpoint, I have a few problems with it....
  
  Tonight's episode didn't sit all that well with me. I had to ruminate over it, read some others comments and rewatch the episode to be able to articulate what was wrong with this episode.
  
  I agree with a poster on the shipperhm list that Mac started it the sniping. AJ had just barely assigned Harm to the bench and they weren't even out of his office before she started questioning his objectivity. Harm waited until things weren't going his way (whether he was right or wrong to take it so personally) in 'Ready Or Not' before he started questioning. She never gave him a chance to prove his objectivity. I did notice several rulings of his that went in her favor. And while it was premature for him to be asking questions before Sturgis had his chance, Mac was out of line to call Harm on it. It's not the first time a judge has asked questions in a JAG episode, which leads me to think its not an uncommon occurance. Just because the questions weren't to her liking the first time (the second time, his questions did more help to her case than Sturgis') is no reason for her attitude.
  
  ....but I wasn't entirely pleased with Harm either. Although he did redeem himself just a little bit at the end by recommending a review of the defendant's flight status (was anyone else having 'Rules Of Engagement' flashbacks?), he went out of his way - and split a few legal hairs - by prompting Mac and Bud to look for the evidence which ended up exhonerating the defendant. And if Mac and Bud had the evidence all along (which appears to be the case), why didn't Sturgis already have a copy of it given to him during discovery? That either makes Mac and Bud look bad for withholding evidence or Sturgis look like he wasn't doing his job by overlooking it. And he did redeem himself a little more by recognizing that he's not cut out to sit behind the bench (of course, necessity requires he say that even if he were happy back there - they had to have a way to hid Mac for the next couple of months).

  • I gotta disagree on one point, remember in Ready or Not, Harm questioned AJ's decision before they reached the courtroom too, so IMHO both Mac & Harm had problems with the other being assigned Judgeship over the other.   I was a bit upset about this episode. As a Canadian viewer, I attempted to separate the "real life" situation from the show....which was indeed difficult. Don't get me wrong, I understand that this episode was different from the actual situation but the concept of the show was based on real life. If what happened last year regarding the friendly fire incident did not occur, I wouldn't have had a problem with this episode. I'm not criticizing the outcome of the case, as seen in the show, however, I think they should have been a little more considerate as to who would be viewing the episode. I think Harm's suggested board review of the pilot was an attempt to rectify the "not guilty" decision.

  • That's the problem with doing ripped from the headlines stories. Remember 'Clipped Wings' from season 3? That came not long after the cable car incident and they didn't even change the country where the incident took place (Italy). I think the main thing to try to remember about these stories is that it is a TV show and there have been facts changed to differentiate it from the real-life incident.   I re-read your message about this website. I can better understand your feelings now. My pov, Manetti scene was totally off the story line. If the shocker does not show a reason for this scene, it must of been a space filler! As for the plagerism, I don't know how it can be stopped on these fanfiction sites but one can always tell the 'Mona Lisa' from a copy. I thought the first time I read DOALS that it should be a book on the shelf in Barnes & Noble. I hope that you can at least finish DOALS for your fans. Not for copycats, not for TPTB, but for YOUR fans. Thanks for listening.

  • I don't think he has, but I don't really expect it to become an issue, at least not now. Apparently, from what Kip says, Nanci will not be in any more episodes this season, so I expect that whole storyline is being dropped for now. Also, with Catherine working a limited schedule, I can't see them throwing in something like that in the limited time that she has.   As most everyone is probably aware by now, the space shuttle Columbia was lost today over Dallas, Texas as it was coming in to land in Florida. Please keep the shuttle crew, their families and friends, as well as everyone who must piece together what happened today, in your thoughts and prayers.
  
  Three members of the shuttle crew were in the US Navy, two were in the US Air Force, one was a civilian PhD and one was in the Israeli Air Force.

  I love discussing and debating JAG. I don't like when posts are edited or deleted because someone has a differing opinion. Notice I said opinion, not bashing or name calling. Those are entirely different matters, but I do know where you are coming from. Being critical, as long as its done in a respectful manner, well there should be no problem with it. We all love different characters and different aspects of JAG, and I bet if you put 10 of us in a room and showed us the same 30 second snippet you'd get 10 different variations of what people saw, LOL!
  
  Anyway, I'm glad you have decided to continue, I think on a lot of issues you are I are on the same wavelength, and I'm not entirely thrilled either with the season, the cast additions, the whose the daddy story arc, and the Mac lite eps that are upcoming (though I am very happy for CB & her hubby), but am trying to hang in there in hopes of that coveted renewal, and an S9 for JAG.

  I do wish you'd finish DOALS. You left poor Harm in a coma for heaven sake. How about finishing it and just email it to those of us that are DYING to see how it ends?
  
  Anyway I wanted to thank you for your work. You are one of the reasons I started writing again and it has given me a real thrill.
  
  A final note about some of the message boards -- It suprised me how very young some of these people are. With age comes the ability to understand that some one can disagree without disliking the individual on the other side of the argument. Obviously a lesson these youngsters (don't I sound like I should be keeping my teeth in a glass) have yet to learn.
