Phliss, here is my email address if you would like to conact me off site. As there are only two of us left now on this site, I guess it will virtually close down, but I welcome email from you if you would like to keep in touch that way. If contacting Tina's family, please pass on my thoughts to them
Thanks,

Dear Ellie,
I received an e-mail from Tina's family. I am copying it for you.
"Our beautiful mother’s long journey with cancer is over. She is at peace and free of pain.
All of her 7 children were gathered around her bed this evening when she was taken home to heaven. It was a beautiful experience these last few days as we shared so much love and closeness with mom and the whole family.
It is hard to imagine life without her. Mom left this world the same way she lived it, with love, caring and humor. We love you mom."
I wish I had your e-mail as I would like to keep in touch with you. I will continue to check your posting on this site.
My heart goes out to the family at this very difficult time.
With great sadness,
Phyllis

Hi Ellie,
I wanted to let you know that Tina is in the hospital and has been there for a while.
I don't have your home e-mail address and I am not sure if Tina's daughter has it so I am letting you know.
She is such a dear wonderful person and I know that everyone is keeping her in their thoughts and prayers for her health.
I hope you are well.

Hi Tina and Phyliss.. a little late with the New Year wishes, it's the 6th here today.. but I came down with a bug on New Years Eve, continually sneezing, nose running like a tap. aches and nausea.. getting better now, but haven't done a lot over the last week.
New Years Eve itself was dramatic. It has been a miserably hot day. and the weather forecast was for thunderstorms at night. As I wasn't well I went to bed at 10pm and fell asleep.. but was woken right on midnight by two things happening together, fireworks going off and a tremendous storm! I opened my balcony door to look, and and was nearly swept away, the wind was so strong, heavy rain flooding the balcony, and the sky full of sheet lightning. A dramatic start to 010!
Tina, so glad you have had such a wonderful time withlovely family and friends.. and Phyliss.. all the best to you too.
January is my lots of reading time, as my writing groups don't go back till Feb, and most of my friends are away on holiday so I go to the library and get a good store of books! What good be better than books.. unless it's books AND chocolate together!
Have a positive year..
Love,
Ellie.

Here we are 2nd day into 2010, we have a beautiful 18 cent. of snow, kinda deep but it will turn ugly deep today acording to the weather forecast and gusts of wind up to 100 k. oh Lord protect my trees!
I have thermoses of hot water in case the power goes out,and buckets of water sitting in the bath tub to flush the toilet with.I can add hot water to cans of soup or coffee if the power goes out.
My health is like the weather-2 good days ,2 bad days.
oh well can't complain, never dreamed I'd make it to Christmas much less 2010.Wonderful family, wonderful friends and neighbors have helped me have a very happy time and perk me up on my bad days.
All the best that life can bring are my wishes for you and yours Ellie and Phyllis and anyone else peeking in here.

Lovely to hear your Xmas news Tina and Phyliss. It's the night of the 26th here, as we Down Under are ahead of you time wise. Yesterday, Xmas Day was spent at my daughter Pam's house. The Sydney family, second son Darren, wife Jenny, and their 3 little boys aged 5, 3, and 11 months came down to spend Xmas with us, so it was great to have them with us. The Xmas tree was beautiful, and the children so excited by the gifts under it. A lovely day. but long and tiring with 4 little ones (the 4th was great-grandaughter Jemillah, 4,) rampaging around. Xmas eve was another celebration at youngest son Simon;s house, they weren'twith us Xmas day, as had gone to his wife's family for 3 days, but that too was lovely, with a tree, more gifts and lots of nice food. Weather was just about perfect too, fine and sunny but cool.
Today I didn't go out anywhere.. cleaned up the place here, read, watched tv, and had a nap in the afternoon!
Enjoy the rest of the holiday season, and be well, warm and safe.
Hugs,
Ellie.

Hi Gals. Sorry for the long delay again. We got a very early.. nine day heat wave which was very energy sapping, and at certain times of the day it was just too hot to be in my room to use my computer.
Cooler now, and we've had some tremendous thundestorms, they too-- or the accompanying rain and wind caused a lot of damage to trees, houses etc.
Apart from that I've also been busy. All this year I've been working on the editorial team of a new newspaper for writers. It's called 'Inscribe' and we had the launch at the town hall a week ago. It was a big success, about 150 people there, a jazz band, readings from the writers, lots of nice food and drink.
Now the Wednesday morning writing group I attend is working madly to get our book of writing ready to publish and launch at our break-up Xmas party on Dec 9th. I have a story and a poem in that one.
I do think of you both even when I'm not writing on here, and hope all is going as well as can be for you.
Ladies, there is another storm rolling in, so I'm going to switch off my computer for now!
Hugs and thoughts,
Ellie.

Can't remember if I told you or not, my scan showed that the cancer is once more advancing, too many spots to operate, all I can do is continue on the chemo pills hoping to postpone the inevitable.
I did have a good week, trying to get Christmas shopping done before I get too sick.Cynthia took me to Chester where we had lunch yesterday and then to gift shops, she had luck in finding 3 or 4 gifts,I only found one.I am just about half-way through though.
Ellie and Phyllis hope all is well with you and yours, Ellie I hope the flooding wasn't anyplace near you,tv wasn't too clear just where it was.

Well ladies, glad things seem to be "looking up" for you.
My oldest daughter Darlene had the family in for a birthday party for me. It was a wonderful day of chit chat, family jokes and good eating.
gifts: 5 good books, restaurant gift certificate, flowers,a ticket to and including the trip for this coming sunday in Halifax David Copperfield, a very famous illusionist.I also received a "magic cloth" it does clean windows and mirrors like magic.Chocolates and an angel pin.
my birthday cake was a big carrot cake with home made whipped cream/cream cheese topping.Speghetti with the most delicious meat sauce, chili, salads, deviled eggs, rice casserole, ooh so many goodies!
OUr weather these last few week has been quite nice.No snow yet in our part of the province but they had some in the northern part.
Ellie your day trip sounds like my type of travel.
This Thursday I go for another scan, have to drink that yukky stuff to light up my insides.Friday I go to the cancer clinic in Halfiax. I am actually afraid of what the results will be.Although I have been getting to a lot of events there is a constant nagging but bearable pain in my right hip area.Like if you put spread out fingers, thumb at the rib base baby finger spread to hip it feels like a terrific bruise.
OH well I did have a great spring and summer. They are just taking on the radio now, reminding us time goes back an hour Sat night.
Well ladies have a great week.

Hello Tina and Pgyliss.. I hope your pulled muscle is healing now Phyliss? I'm finally over my flu thing.. it took nearly 5 weeks for the coughing to stop, but the exhausted feeling was the worst. We have had capricious Spring weather, mainly cool.mild, but very windy. The trees in leaf and blossom are beautiful though.
A week ago my daughter, grandaughter, and 4 year old great grandaughter,Jemillah, and I took a day trip to a county town in the hills called Warburton. It was for no other reason than to go to Warburton, which is about 75ks from here. It was a very cold day, but we had tea and scones in a little teashop, and then went and ate our picnic lunch by the river. There had been a lot of rain, and the river was full and turbulent. It was hilarious watching the ducks splashing and diving, especially when they were trying to swim against the current!
My brother John, in Kingston, Ontario wrote me of their Thanksgiving this last weekend, They had roast turkey and ham (as John is allergic to any kind of poultry) and assorted veg, and pimpkin pie and apple pie, and berry fruits and icecream. It made me hungry just reading about it!
Hope all is well with you both, and your families.
Hugs from Ellie.

So, Fall for you, Spring for us.The gardens are such a riot of all sorts of different colored beautiful flowers, though this pastweekend was as FREEZING as anything we had through winter, and lots of good rain, creeks are flowing that have barely had water in them for years. Lots of people have been down with colds/flu including me. just getting over it now after 2 weeks.

today is officially the last day of summer, hopefully we will continue to have nice weather for a while because June and July were so wet and cold it made summer seem really short.
Early spring I was so sick no one thought I would make it through the summer, actually I was well enough to enjoy a lot of things this summer, I think I told you I am on the chemo pill which will hopefully slow the growth of all the spots on my insides.
Cancer is so un-predictable,one sweet lady from our art group wh
o was always so healthy looking and so much fun because she was so jolly got sick 2 weeks ago and is now dead of cancer of the brain.A terrible shock to all who knew her. she was 59 but looked about 40.
Elluie I hope your foot is better and I wish you a happy ,fun summer, not too hot though.
Phyllis is on facebook now so I find it easy to leave messages there because most of my family is on facebook so I can visit all at once.

We are about a week off our official start of Spring, some trees are in blossom, and gardens looking bright with early Spring flowers, but it's VERY windy.. gale force, damaging winds predicted for the next 3 days.
Still not back at work.. 5 weeks now.. because of te damage to my foot.. so frustrating! I have been doing a lot of reading though. Hope your furnace got fixed Phyliss, and Tina, that things are going as well as can be for you.

Tina, I was relieved to hear from you. Even though you have those 'nasty spots' inside you, your spirit is still indomitable, and I'm happy you are basically feeling pretty well and getting out and doing some lovely things.Thoughts and prayers are with you.
I looked up a picture of Zoe's parrot on the Internet, what a beautiful little bird. We have many beautiful parrots here, but that one is not native to Australia.
I'm not on Facebook. A friend asked me to join, but I had terrible time getting on there.. I tried to register several times, it didn't work, and I gave up. Others have told me they've had trouble too.
Keep as well as can be dear Tina.

Hi Ellie and Tina,
I was glad to read both your postings.
I am considering signing up for facebook as both my sons are active on it. I will let you know if I decide to in the future. I have some basic questions about facebook. Tina, did you sign in with your real name and is there anything one should be concerned about once they get on to it?
You must be so happy that your granddaughter will be near Cynthia's house and within a short driving distance from you. I wish Zoe good luck with her new parrot. Pets are so wonderful. We had parakeets when I was growing up as well as a cat. Of course we kept the parakeets safe from our cat.
Ellie, How are you doing? I hope you are back to normal in your activities.
Today, my oil company came to discuss my replacing one of my furnaces (I have 2 furnaces, one for upstairs apt and the other mine). I have decided to replace the upstairs one which is a steam furnace. It is very old and I constantly have to go down cellar in the winter to add water in a gauge to it. The other furnace is old also but I had it cleaned and will keep my fingers crossed that it will continue to run for several more years.
It is over $6,000.00 to replace the steam one and luckily I have equity in my home and will use it.
I am going out to supper this evening with my sister-in-law as her husband is in Greece for a month and she stayed home as she is still working and did not want to leave her home unattended. Last year they both went on a trip to Greece and they had a water leak from their washing machine hose which caused a lot of problems in their cellar. Apparently they forgot to shut off the shut off to the washing machine.
I will be watching Ashley tomorrow and she keeps me very busy and I am thankful that she takes one long nap a day.
Thinking of you both and send my best.
Phyllis

First I hope you are well now Ellie, Phyllis I enjoyed your beach trip news and the good word of your daughters work.
We have had such a wierd summer, only about 4 really, really hot days, then a mix of rain, cool, warm, no steady sameness in the weather, hard to plan things.
I don't think I had the heart to say that my latest scan shows numerous cancer spots on my lower insides, liver, kidneys, etc. I am on the chemo pill, no operation will cure me,hopefuly the pills will slow down the growth of the cancer spots. Its un believable that I am feeling great most days so I have been having what I think of as a last fling, I have been going places every chance I get. That is why I haven't written.
Are either of you on facebook? A lot of pictures of our family outings are on there.
I am so happy-oldest Granddaughter and her hubby bought a house across the street from my daughter Cynthias-about 20 minutes drive from here.I am so glad she is out of the city. Beautiful older home with a field leading to the river. Not so happy one daughter is in the yukon..oh so far north and her brother is going to go there as well.I know lots of money can be made there but money is not everything.
Mostly I have had a wonderful summer, husband is gdoing good but is a bit of work but has been good about me "running around places he couldn't go " becuase he need his walker or a cane. I have also taken him on quite a few long drives that he really enjoyed. Bo goes with us if it is only him and I .
Zoe bought a meyers parrot-it is quite small in the parrot family but very pretty, hope all goes well with it because
she saved up money to buy it. We went to Truro "middle of our province" last week to get it. She got a $600.cage,wheeled stand, cage is about 3 and a half square feet, a carrier, the parrot and a poposterous amount of toys
all for $700. from a woman who bought it for her son who was too young to look after it. It was on the computer
sale place. When we got there the lady selling was a lovely lady,we found out she works for the same company that we worked for once, She gave the birth cert. along with everything else so as far as deals on a parrot ,zoe got a good deal ,like less than 1/2 price. Zoe saved for it herself because it was something she wanted for the last few years.I hope she gets along well with it.
I must scram-start my day.
All the best to you ladies.

Hi Ellie and Tina,
First of all, Ellie, I am sorry to hear about your foot injury. I know that it takes time to heal. I am sending my thoughts that you will be back to normal soon. Accidents happen so quickly. Please take it easy
We had a great time with our weekend trip to Maine. We had to leave after my daughter got out of work which was 5:00 p.m. on Friday night. The traffic was slow going in certain spots. My son-in-law did all the driving as my daughter and I do not drive any great distance. We both do not like driving on the highway at all. We arrived at the hotel around 6:30. I had fed the girls an early supper so that they would not be fussy on the ride up.
Saturday morning we went to the playground at the beach and then back to hotel to freshen up and then to the zoo.
The zoo had a beautiful butterfly exhibit. Lots of animals to see. Ashley was happy in her stroller. The girls took a nap in the afternoon before heading to the beach. One of my best friends and her daughter, grandsons met us at the beach and we spend the afternoon under an umbrella. The girls were great. Ashley loved the water, Kaitlyn prefer playing in the sand. She did not like the seaweeds in the ocean.
Part of our package plan at the hotel included our breakfasts and one evening meal. The breakfasts were so so good. Food I do not usually eat very often.
We returned back home on Sunday as checkout time was 11:00.
I stayed to help my daughter unpack. We took plenty of pictures and my friend took a video of our beach play time with the children.
We are having very hot, humid weather here in New England but I do have a good air conditioner.
Wishing you both a good week.
Phyllis

Hi Ellie & Tina,
I am happy to report that my daughter received the news yesterday that she has the position which she applied for and had the second interview for. Her starting date is this coming Monday.
Thank you for your positive thoughts while we were waiting for the news.
She will be working for Cardiac Associates which is under our local hospital here in town. Her position is a Chart Management Technician.
Our family is so happy as she was been out of work since April when her former employer eliminated her position after almost 20 years.
I will resume watching Ashley 2 days a week and possibly 3 days in the winter months. My daughter will not plan on any time off and I will be doing preschool vacations for the time being.
We realize how fortunate she is to find a job in this economy.
Thanks again for your support.
Wishing you both a good week.
Phyllis

Hello Tina and Phyliss.. A time back I mentioned my dear long time friend Cate who died unexpectadly at the end of April. I couldn't go to her funeral service sscame down with a rotten cold/sore throat 2 days beforehand.
A few weeks ago I got a phone call from Jenny, one of 2 executors of Cate's will saying that last Saturday there would be 'open house' at Cate's before the house went on the market, and for her friends to come and choose something from Cate's bequests to friends, as a memory of her. So I went, and as you can guess it was very poignant.
There were a LOT of things to go, and I was urged to take whatever I wanted among the things, but I don't have a car so obviously I couldn't take much. I did have a laugh when I was asked if I wanted any outdoor furniture.. explained that I lived in a second floor apartment!
I ended up just taking 3 things, One was a handsome blue and white china duck that lived on Cate's coffee table, I had always admired that duck, so when I saw it among the things to 'go' I knew that was what I wanted.
Those of us that were there sat and talked over tea/coffee/cheese/crackers etc and had some laughs too, so it was a good memory time with thoughts of Cate.
Phyliss, I hope you enjoyed your July 4th and your sisters birthday.. strawberry shortcake, Yum.. also that you will have a great time during your weekend in Maine.
Also thoughts that your daughter will get that Job!
Tina, how are you? Hope you are keeping as well as possible, and enjoying some nice weather,
Hugs and thoughts.

Good morning dear friends,
We are celebrating the 4th of July today. It is my younger sister's birthday. We are celebrating it at my daughter's house. We are having strawberry shortcake as that is one of my sister's favorites. My sister does not eat sweets as a rule. I on the other hand like ice cream and dark chocolate.
We are planning a weekend trip to the beach this month. We made reservations last winter as it is hard to find a place in the summer. I am going with my daughter, her husband and the children. We are going to Maine. We will visit the animal zoo and butterfly exhibit.
Please keep your fingers crossed as my daughter has a second interview on Wednesday for a job that she applied for. I will keep you posted on the outcome.
I am keeping this short as I am headed for a morning walk soon. The last 2 days the weather has been better with just a couple of showers instead of rain all day.
Best wishes to both of you.

- Winter in Australia. -- Ellie., 02:20:24 06/22/09 Mon (c114-76-95-65.thoms3.vic.optusnet.com.au/114.76.95.65)
Hello Ladies. We have winter here now, and lately it's been VERY cold, No snow here, that is very rare, but the townships of Kinglake and Marysville which just 4 months ago were burnt and blackened in the bushfires were last week covered in snow. Little kids were having a ball, throwing snow balls at each other. As mentioned my eldest son Peter lives in Kinglake. His dog Odin is crazy for chasing balls, and Peter made a snowball and threw it to him. Odin caught it in his mouth, and was astonished when it broke up!
Tina, sorry to hear you've had another set back with the discovery of another tumour, because it's so small, hopefully it will be treatable, also hope you are recovering from the flu now. Reading is good, I do a lot of that myself!
It's my grandson Ben;s 3rd birthday today. Unfortunately I can't see him as they are in Sydney 700 miles away, but I posted him abirthday gift, and hope the little fellow has a good birthday. I guess his Mom will give him a party. She's pretty big on birthday parties!
The cats are well, they sleep a lot in this cold weather.
Have a good week, thinking of you both.
Ellie.

Hello ladies, Phyllis I do hope your daughter has found work, ellie I hope you are over your flu. I have had a flu for a week now plus my ultra sound shows I have another growth started "no surprise because I have mastic cancer"
it is only 17 mm about the size of your nail part of you finget,it is between the right kidney and the liver.I don't see the specialists until July 7 so I don't know what they will do,chemo most likely.
The weather, although nice is not warm enough for swimming but I have been to the lake a few times just admiring the scenery and enjoying the summer people"the city folks who have cottages on the lake.
I have been doing more reading than working, and on the go when I feel ok so have been enjoying life at least half the time-lol
Hope all is well ladies !

Hope things are looking up for you ladies, Our weather is
still cool for this time of your with the exception of 2 really too hot days.Everything is so lush and green from all the rains we had.
Lots of baby wild ducks in my pond,so much fun watching all the antics.Mother ducks have a terrible time watching their broods and sadly lose a few babies to either, racoons, crows, cats etc.I would not want to be a mother duck, sitting on eggs all those weeks and then sometimes losing the whole brood the first trip out.
Today cynthia, zoe and I are going to the valley to the zoo, this we do about four times a year before winter returns. We are such animal lovers. All the animals in this zoo were rescued animals from one country or another so I don't feel guilty that they are not roaming free, but this zoo has acers and acers of property so even the camels, lions, bears etc. have lots of room to roam. They monkey areas are hugh.
I have been feeling fairly good and take advantage of every day that I do feel good.Ralston does not mind my going places as long as he has the t.v. to watch and watch it he does, 12 to 14 hours a day.He did that when he was well and I do think that led to most of his problems, no exercise.
Wishing you ladies all the best.

Dear Phyliss and Tina. Phyliss I am sorry to hear about your daughters job loss, so much of that is going on over here too. Both our countries seem to be in recession, and many others too. It's getting really hard financially for many people. Please try not to stress too much, Phyliss and I will send positive thoughts that your daughter will find a new job soon. Tina, lovely to hear about Zoe and her music, and I hope you continue to feel well.
On this side of the world, good news and bad. I lost my dear friend Cate, a week ago, we had been friends for about 20 years, and it was a very sudden, and a shock. They think it was a heart attack. I'd been out to see a play and have lunch with her just the week before. her funeral is this Friday, 8th.
Good news, my son in Sydney and his wife and their 3 little boys were here last weekend for my daughters birthday party. They were down for 4 days, and we all did heaps together! It was a year since they were last down here, so a joyful reunion, and the first time of seeing the baby.Douglas, who is just 3 months old, and gorgeous!!
Thinking of you both.. and your families.

Hi Tina & Ellie,
My daughter was on vacation as there was no preschool for a week. She received a phone call informing her that her position was eliminated after almost 20 years of employment.
She worked as a customer service representative in a insurance company. She originally started right after high school in the mail room, then as a receptionist and for last 10 years as a customer service representative.
There are no jobs to be found anywhere due to the economy. Her insurance will be ending the end of June. She will receive severance pay, however, she really needs to find full time employment as they cannot survive on her husband's pay only. They have a mortgage, car payment, child care expenses, etc. If she were to take children out of day care, she would lose her spot. Then when she becomes employed it would be very difficult to find child care and I cannot do it 5 days a week. Please keep her in your prayers.
On a more positive note, my youngest son (my daughter's twin brother) arrived late last night for a visit. We had not seen him since his wedding in October 2007. He will be here for a short time as he will be driving to Rhode Island for a training in his profession.
I will keep you posted but of course I am stressed out because of my daughter's job loss.
I send my best to you both and hope all is well.
Phyllis

The week long music festival has been great, extra great for my youngest granddaughter Zoe. She came first on 3 different days and second on one day.Grandma is sooo proud!
We have had a week of all season weather. One day was as hot as a mid summer day or hotter, some days one needed a coat, I mean a winter coat. So far this morning it is quite misty.Luckily we had a lot of rain Friday to put out the fires just outside of the city of Halifax. 10 homes burned to the ground,18 badly scarred or near ruined.Thank goodness no one was killed. Now they think someone started it on purpose. What kind of nuts are growing up in this world?
Hope you are all well and having a good time with your families, clubs etc.
I have been feeling good but tire out very quickly, hope I soon get more ambition.
all the best to you folks!

Hello Tina and Phyliss. Getting a bit anxious as no news from either of you for quite a while. Tina, are you alright? Think of you daily, and Phyliss you too.
Hope you both enjoyed a happy Easter time. Mine was quiet, did celebrate grandson Rory's 1st birthday which fell across the Easter holiday this year. He is so cute! Very blond hair and big blue eyes, just like his sister.
His Mum made cupcakes, and we put a candle on three of them, so all 3 little ones there could blow one out. They got their share of eggs and bunnies too.
Autumn here now.. YEAH! So much enjoy the coooler weather after the awful summer heat. First fog of the season this morning, was surprised when I looked outside and saw everything wrapped in thick grey mist. Funny thing to be celebrating fog! However all part of the changing season.
Thinking of you both, and hope you will write soon.
Hugs,
Ellie.

Hello Tina and Phyliss. Lovely to hear good news of improved weather, and Tina, that things are good for you just now. Hope you enjoyed the trip with Cynthia and Zoe. I was fascinated to hear of Cynthia and Zoe's trip to Cuba, and that they took things for the people, because my brother and wife do that too! They've been to Cuba twice now, and take pencils, coloring books, hair slides and all sorts of other little things for the village children, and the little school in the village there. They lack such simple things. The teacher at the school didn't even have a world atlas! Their granddaughter, Maggie gave them some of her toys to take, even her best doll.
On the home front, all the fires are now out. We've had some rain, and the weather is cooler, but the after effects go on and on, so many homes destroyed, so many lives lost.
Yesterday I had a trip into the hills. This was to the Dandening ranges, so fortunately not touched by the bush fires, and so beautiful and green with huge tree ferns bodering the road. It was a belated birthdy treat for me. An 'all girls' thing, me, my daughter, my grandaughter, and her little girl who is three, a 4 generation all women thing! We went to a cafe up there and had Devonshire tea, hot scones with jam and cream, then visited a big book shop, (we love bookshops!) spent quite a lot of time in there looking around and made a few purchases.
Oh, must tell you, to add to the aftermath of the fires we had an earthquake a few weeks ago! It was only a 4.8, and no lives lost or serious damage, but lots of people got a bad scare. It happened just before 9pm, I was sitting watching tv, with my grey cat sitting at my feet, when all of the room shook with a noise like thunder. Cat looked up at the ceiling in alarm! I knew it was an earthquake, but for some reason wasn't at all frightened, just surprised!Earthquakes are not common here, though we have had minor shakes before.
Well, better go to bed. Work tomorrow, and we have three work experience students coming, so that will keep us busy!
Take care,
Ellie.

It is promising to be a nice day & I am going for my first "pleasure drive" for months.Cynthia has to go to the valley,a beautiful 2 hour drive from here,I am going with her. Cynthia and her daughter Zoe had a great time in Cuba.Zoe swam with dolphins, stood on the back of 2,holding on their fins for a ride to the other side of the pool.Zoe & cynthia snorkeled with tropical fish of many colors. They took a lot of goodies to give to the kids/moms "tooth brushes, paste, crayons, curtains, tiny toys, cosmetics candy down with them, these are impossible to buy in Cuba. They
had the best vacation ever!
Ellie I hope your weather has changed to at least a nice comphy state. We are finally coming out of the deep freeze of the winter the papers say doesn't want to quit.I am quite sure the winter was just as bad for Phyllis or perhaps worse for her.Phillis lives further south which would make you think she is in warmer climate but Nova Scotia juts out into the Atlantic ocean and for some reason a lot of the snowstorms are diminished before they get chance to hit us.
Phyllis it must be a worry for your family to have to go out in bad storms for fear of losing work and healthwise it is terrible to have to work when one is not feeling well ,plus more germs spread when staff goes to work while breeding the flu.
Ellie I do hope peace and calm comes to those who have suffered such losses in Australia, all the best to you and Phyllis.
I am doing quite well, enjoying eating food instead of juices, doing the easy housework, dishes, dusting and cooking, will keep the cleaning lady until May when her spring/summer job on an island in Mahone Bay harbour starts. I can't vacuum/wash /wax floors yet or any heavy work but feel more human every day.

Hi Ellie & Tina,
Our weather is expected to reach the 50's today. Even though the snowbanks are high in places at least it is March and spring can't be too far off.
I think of you both often and enjoy reading your postings.
I am keeping busy watching my granddaughter. Also preschool was canceled when we had the last snowstorm so I did an extra day with both girls. The weather was so bad that my son-in-law picked me up at 6:00 a.m. as he cannot be late for work and neither can my daughter. Both places of employment are strict. My daughter's office requires 48 hours notice for any time off. The work place has really changed and everyone just prays that they keep their jobs.
Ellie, I know it must have been so sad at the memorial for your friend's grandson. It is heartbreaking for someone so young to die.
A belated Happy Birthday to you Ellie. Wishing you a year of good health and happiness.
Tina, I hope you are able to eat more food each day and get stronger. Also hope your husband is doing well.
I wish you both a good week. Please keep in touch.
Fondly,
Phyllis

Tina, I think I'm going to re christen you 'Wonder Woman!' So happy that you are home again and able to eat some real food, even if just in small amounts. I hope things continue to get better for you.
Weird day here today, weather was predicted to be nearly as hot and windy as 'Black Saturday" the day of the dreadful fires. There were even million of text messages sent out to mobile phones warning that today was a day of extreme danger, but so far it's grey and cloudy with just a few sprinkles of rain, so I don't know what is developing.
The aftermath goes on. A week ago with my family I attended the memorial service for my friends grandson, who died in the fires. He was 18, a beautiful young man, There will be so many memorial services, so many sad hearts.
The day after the mmemorial service it was my birthday, which I had not thought about much at all. We just had a simple afternoon tea at my daughters house, with family members. I got some nice gifts and cards.
Phyliss, I hope your shoulder is improving, and Tina, keep on keeping on!
Hugs.
Ellie.

Dear Tina and Phyliss, thank you for your concern. It's been so dreadful down here in Victoria for the past week. My son Peter lives in Kinglake, one of the worst affected areas, Kinglake is virtually burnt out, so many lives and houses lost, Peter is SAFE, and his beloved dog, and his house still stands. However, the 17 year old grandson of my longest time friend died, along with 2 of his friends, and the parents of one of the boys when their house exploded in flames. There are too many terrible tales to tell you and I don't want to cause more distress.
Wonderful news too though in that the public has been so good with all sorts of donations, and the aid is now getting through to the affected areas. Plus vets and animal care people are now in the areas caring for injured wildlife, stock and pets. Will take a long time for things to recover though.
Tina, my thoughts are with you for your upcoming surgery, I will keep in touch.
Hugs
Ellie.

Oh ellie, I pray that you are in a safe area. Seeing the fires and the floods that are in australia on the news scares the heart right out of me.The heat alone must be unbearable.I hope you and all your friends and loved ones are safe.
Phyllis I guess we are lucky even though at times we don't think we are.At least we can add more clothes to keep warm, with heat there is little they can do, and such extreme heat.
As I e-mailed you Phyllis I do have to get my surgery done over, L still don't know the date, and as I said I may not survive another surgery but it is apparently my only chance,I cannot survive this way. Some days even liquids don't want to go down but yesterday and the day before I did not feel too badly,it is too early in the orning yet to tell what the day will bring.
Once again my prayers are for the safety of the people in distress in Australia and I am wishing you both a good week.

Sorry that I haven't been in touch sooner. We;ve just had the most terrible heatwave in decades. Day after day of blistering temeperatures in the 100's-- it was like some hellish nightmare. Not just me personally
yffected, but people collapsed (and died) through heat exhaustion, trains were cancelled because the lines buckled in the heat, bush fires started, homes, etc destroyed. Ladies, it's been bad.!!
My poor cats, I felt so sorry for them, but couldn't do much more than make sure they had shade and cool water to drink.
But some good news too.! My new little grandson arrived to Darren and Jenny in Sydney on Jan 30th. They're both well. He was a big boy, over 4 kilo's, and has been named Douglas. Not what we expected, but a good Scottish name. Brother for Alexander, 4, and Ben, 2 1/2.
Tina, I hope they find the source of that terrible pain soon, and can do something about it. Sorry you have to have more 'mean'chemo, but I'm glad that you are being blessed with some good days.
Phyliss, are you okay? No news from you for a time.
Must cook the chicken in the fridge before it goes off!

Don't know the reason..after intervenous and a few doses of morphine the pain left,so I was only kept a night and morning. They are missing something for sure, every 7 to eleven days I get these terrible pains. This last time I actually screamed for pain.A half hour before the pain I seemed as healthy as anyone. They are scheduling me for an ultra sound on my gall bladder.Somewhere, somehow they have to find the source of this pain. I do have to go back on 3 more months of caelyx chemo..the terrible stuff. Hard to beleive I do have some good days that I can enjoy like anyone else
We are having real cold weather , hardly a day above or near zero. Brrr ! Lots of snow and so pretty ! sports people who don't mind the cold are enjoying lots of skiing.
I never did like skiing but loved skating.Alas no more skating for me.
Hope you ladies are enjoying your days. Ellie bet it is hot there ! They just announced on the radio-minus 17 out and not to go above minus 6 today.Phyllis I suppose you are at about the same temperatures as we are.Bless you ! don't freeze..fuel bills will be hellish !

Well, Tina, you do have a penchant for doing things unexpectedly! Whar a way to spend NY's Eve! I hope you are feeling much better now. My new Years Eve was quiet.. I was alone AAAWWW! but watched some movies on tv, then it wasn;t quiet, because fireworks started being let off nearby. I saw some from my window, very pretty, but then some ratbags started letting them off again at 3am, which of course woke me up, and there was a chorus of dogs barking and howling. Just as well it's only once a year!
Wth most of my family and friends being away on holiday, it's been sort of lonely, but I've been back and forth to the library, doing a lot of reading, and a bit of extra housecleaning (getting rid of paper junk and stuff) Yesterday I was out shopping for a birthday gift for second son, who has his 40th birthday on Jan 9th. It was deadly quiet at the shopping plaza, I figured masses of people were either away on holiday or had no more money to spend!
Hope all is well, and neither of you are snowed in. Weather is still mild/warm here, but not awfully hot.
Hugs,
Ellie.

Zoe my 12 year old granddaughter and I were going to spend new years eve by having a living room picinic, sleep in the living room after watching cartoons and t.v fireworks displays-instead, at 8:30 I went into terrible pain in my gut, outside a terrible blizzard had started but I phoned my son who has good winter tires and standard drive, we took Zoe to his place-a 3 minute trip, then off to the hospital, normally a 20 minute trip, took us much longer.
By the time we got there I was in dire pain "another bowel blockage" after x-rays they determined I was full of gas,gas can ferment as bad as bowel movement, which I didn't know . They then gave me morphine, and intervenous with heaven knows what in it.To make a long story short, after a day and a half I am home.Have to have only liquids
for a few weeks to give bowels a rest
We have about 2 feet of snow. Soft ,fluffy and beautiful. We are expecting more today.Thankfully no New years revellers were in any accidents coming home in the blizzard from the many dances and parties.
Hopefully you, my friends had a much better start to the new year than I did.
Wishing you both Ellis and Phyllis, a year filled with good fortune.

Hello Tina and Phyliss, Lovely to hear all your Xmas news and know you both had a happy time with families and friends. Me too, Xmas day we had a picnic up country, a lovely spot with lots of grass and trees, a dam(small lake) with ducks and geese swimming on it, and a lot of friendly horses, The weather was just perfect, sunny but not too hot. David- son-inlaws. family arranged this so they were a lot of their side there, and some of ours, minus of course second son who lives in Sydney and his family*their new baby is due in three weeks) It was a great afternoon, lots of food, talk and laughter, and the kringle gift exchange.
Then Sunday afternoon we had another 'Xmas' at youngest son and family's house, as they had been with my d-in=laws family on Xmas Day. It was also a birthday celebration for their little girl Matilda, who turned three. So there was Xmas cake, and birthday cake, and lots more gifts for the three little ones. I did pretty well overall! I got 2 boxes of chocolates, a lovely copper bracelet, book and movie gift vouchers, a cheque from my brother in Canada, a certificate for a free massage, oh, and a dear little 'lucky bamboo' plant. I feel quite spoiled!
Weather is still mild rather than hot.. this is GOOD!
So New Years Eve tomorrow.. thinking of you both and your families.. may 009 bring nothing but good news for you.
Blessings,
Ellie.

We had a wonderful Christmas, great weather for travelling, just a nice trimming of snow, bare pavement, lots of family and friends, great Christmas eve,Christmas day and boxing day.Ralston was home for 3 and 1/2 days, had to go back to the re-hab for more leg work although he does excellent with the walker except if he has to go up a step, there are 2 different steps to get in our house. He should be home by the 10th of Jan. my chemo is on the 9th which was his scheduled day to come home so we had to have him stay there another day.
had lots of family with us for eating Christmas dinner, Christened my beautiful new electric range,oh I am so happy with it
my son Curtis gave me a NEW COMPUTER wOW! Had to shout that, I got about 5 books, 3 magazine subscriptions, lots of chocolates and at least 6 boxes of cookies, beautiful hand crafted frames with family pictures in them
A set of those new kind of warm fuzzy bed sheets,an ornament to show a donation was made to a dog in my name and they will send me a little brass dog tag for my dog soon as I mail in my dogs info. a vent for my car so that when I park my car in my yard the car will stay cool in summer and no squirels can climb in, beeswax candle, mugs,a wireless mouse for my new computer, angel nic nack, window glass hanging ornament, canned lobster, potato scrubbers gloves, pliers, maple syrup, jam all so useful but you can see they didn't heed my "no spending" words to them.
From the church we were given 2 gift bags of goodies before Christmas and the Fire dept gave ralston a huge fruit basket filled with fruit before he came home from re-hab. I have enough foor inthe house for a month, even froze a supple of bread. If it storms bad I am all set.
There is a 37 year old man up the street from here who is a bit mentally challenged but works and supports his widowed mother and himself and I know how badly he wants a computer and I know he will be very happy with my old one, It works good, just doesn't have all the bells and whistles so to speak,I am going to give it to him.I will contact a woman whom I know will set it up for him.
Well girls I hope you enjoyed Christmas as much as I have, if it turns out to be my last, well it sure was a great one!

Hello Ladies. My brother has written of all the snow they're getting in Kingston, OntHe had just finished clearing the end of his driveway when the snow plough came along and shovelled it all up onto the driveway again!
So far the weather here has been cool, mild, not really hot yet, but a lot more summer to go! We did get some really good rain about a week ago, my potplants on the balcony almost drowned! I've been caught up in pre Xmas activities, which has been very nice, but tiring. They have included our writing group break-up party, the council arts and culture Xmas party, the Span )community house) 30th birthday celebration, and lunch with frends at 'Lentils" a vegetarian cafe in a beautiful park/garden setting. Not quite finished yet, a few more things to go.
Tina, I hope you will be feeling well enough to enjoy Xmas, I will write again before then, and will look forward to hearing Xmas news from you both.
Hugs,
Ellie.

Hi,
I left to do errands yesterday and when I returned home, I have no power. Our whole street was very dark. Luckily I had a couple of flashlights. Our power had been out for about 7 hours or so. At least it was very warm outside.
I had gone grocery shopping so I had to use my flashlight in order to bring groceries inside. After I put perishable in refrigerator, I did not open it again.
About 8:30 our power came back on.
I am leaving to go to watch Ashley very soon.
I will keep you updated. I hear we are going to get several different incoming systems which means snow and rain storms this week.
Wishing both of you a good week.
Phyllis

Hi Gals. Slow in catching up again. I've been off color for a few days, nothing too specific, just headachy achy limbs, and enough stomach gas to fix the world's fuel problems.LOL! Tina. glad you have been able to get out and what nice things you bought to decorate your house. Do you have a Xmas tree? And how about you Phyliss?
I was out this morning and bought a few small gifts for the little grandchildren. The adults will draw names, and buy just one gift for the person they draw. With what seems to be an ever expanding family it becomes a heavy burden to buy for everyone, and the joy is in being together, not how many presents you get. I know you both know this! Weather so far is mild. I'm happy, the longer the heat holds off the better as far as I'm concerned.
Hope you both have a good weekend.
Hugs,
Ellie.

Family is indeed the basis for wonderful memories of Thanksgiving. I am so glad you had a wonderful day.
This week I felt better than I had felt since August.Yesterday I went to a flea market in Mahone Bay where I got a beautiful artificial bouquet of Christmas flowers . It looks so real and I don't have to worry about Bo eating them and getting poison like some Christmas flowers can do.I had a special place where ZI wanted to place a vase I have. Now it is on the floor by the french doors leading to my living room and I am quite happy.Cost was only $2. also got a popurri pot "electric" for only $1.
I like to simmer a few drops of lavender in a pot of water sometimes just to freshen the air. Then I went to Lunenburg to a huge 2 building craft sale.I bought some beeswax candles which I like to burn sometimes to keep spiders away and beeswax is known to purify the air.I also had a lobster sandwich & carrot cake lunch there and saw many old friends, really had a wonderful day.I went to see my husband but he has a stomache flu and they would not let me see him, not that he is real sick but for my protection because they know I am on chemo.I am going to church today, first Sunday since August that I feel well enough to go.
Ellie are you getting your real warm weather yet? We are still having mild weather ever since the big snowstorm got over last Sunday. It has been a springlike week but it won't last like this so I have been having fun while it is mild and while I had a feel good week.
Wishing you both Ellie and Phyllis a wonderful month.

Good day to you too Ellie even though you don't have thanksgiving.
The American thanksgiving always brings back to me my fond memories of when Cynthia and I were in Plymouth where the landing of the pilgrims took place. The wax museum there was terrific as was the food at the seaside diner. We had our pictures taken in front of the Mayflower or I should say the replica of the origional Mayflower and by Pilgrims rock..the beleived site of the first footstep landing.

Hi Tina & Ellie,
We have not had any snow yet in our area, but I believe we are going to get some Monday night into Tuesday a.m. Sorry, Tina, to hear that you received so much snow. I hope you will be able to attend your daughter-in-law's birthday party today.
Ellie, I was surprise to read your latest posting and that you had snow in the country area even though you are approaching the summer months.
Australia is such a beautiful country. I use to have a penpal in Australia when I was elementary school. Unfortunately we lost contact many years ago.
I have been doing some house projects to get ready for Thanksgiving dinner. I will be going to the supermarket
Monday to pick up a some last minute items.
Ashley has caught a virus that is going around this time of the year. I don't remember my children getting so many colds when they were young but at that time they did not go to the babysitters or preschool until they were older.
Kaitlyn had a pajama party at preschool last Friday. Her mom packed a pink pair that Kailtyn had picked out. When she came home from preschool, she still had her pj's on and wanted to stay in them. Ashley loves to watch her sister and is entertained by her.
It is very cold out today and does not motivate me to take any walks except a very short one once all bundled up.
Have a good week.
Phyllis

Would you believe with less than a week to go to summer, we too got snow! Well, not actually here in my suburb, but in the outer hills areas. After the heat, yesterday here we had a day of very strong winds, and very heavy rain, and snowfalls a bit further out as mentioned. There are rivers in flood in the country areas.
That National Park Kakudu, I've never been to Tina, but friends of mine have. It's just beautiful with all sorts of birds and wildlife. I didn't know Sydney had a traffic management thing going, when I've been there the traffic has seemed pretty chaotic.LOL! I'm glad you enjoy the documentaries about Australia, if there is anything you want to know, ask me and I will answer to the best of my knowledge .
Hope your road does get cleared of snow, so that you can get- or did get.. to the birthday party.
Phyliss, hope all is well with you.
Late at night.. must to bed now.. My grey cat has already gone to bed.. on my bed!
Have a good week ,

Ellie.

When I last looked out the window just before midnight there was no snow. Now at 3:40 we have been "dumped on"lol
It would be well up over my ankles if I went out in it.
I pity the folks who have to work in the morning because at this rate the snow will be really deep by then.
Ellie just before I fell asleep I was watching a wonderful t.v. program about a park in Darwin, Kakuda I think it was called, then they went further by showing how the handle the traffic in Sydney. My, what a wonderful country! I always watch any documentaries that are on about Australia.
I must try to get back to sleep for a while. I am most likely snowed in for the week-end, I am invited to a 6 pm surprise birthday party for my daughter-in -law who will be 50 Sunday..perhaps by 6 on Sunday the roads will be all cleared. They plow the major roads first and my way to the party at a restaurant in Bridgewater is a secondary road and since there are only 8 houses on this street we will be amongst the last plowed, not to mention my big driveway will have to be plowed.
Phyllis I wish you a wonderfull thanksgiving with lots of goodies and some good weather.
Ellie hope you feel a cool breeze while reading this-lol

Had my chemo on the 15th, same caelyx, doing good so far except the sandman mustn't like me this week, I can only get sleepy on 2 hour stretches once in a while. Hubby got accepted in the new Patterson clinic which teaches people like him to walk better and be able to care for himself when he gets home. They give theraphy throughout every day, hope it works for him.The clinic is only a year old but has had marvelous results.Beautiful rooms , nicer than most peoples homes.
Bo is back with me, he was at my oldest sons for almost a week, last Thurs I had a kink in the bowel so painful I had to go to the hospital, after lots of intervenous the kink floated over on its own, a doctor was waiting to operate, thank God I didn't have to have that done. Was released from hosp next day after more blood tests to see if my blood was high enough to go to the city hospital Fri for my chemo. What a week ! That is 2 times in one month that I was to 2 different hospitals. They say I need this strong chemo once a month for 4 more months, the effects to your body last most of the month.Bowel cramps, lack of sleep, some days woozy feeling,I am still going out every day that I do feel good but I rarely drive myself at these times, my family is so good to take me places.
Well that is all the rambling I will do right now, just want you to know I am not in complete misery, I do enjoy myself a lot and the bad times are worth surviving through.

Tina, so good to hear you have been out and about and feeling well enough to do all those nice things, and you too Phyliss with pleasant outings. And me too, tomorrow my daughter and I are treating a dear friend to lunch for her 80th birthday. It was actually in late Oct, but she's such a busy woman even at 80, that this was the first date she could fit it in!
I've also been busy with writing events. We had our last Darebin Writers meeting for this year last Thursday night, and celebrated festively, Ordered in a large pizza, and people brought plates of food, and we had some wine and juice so it was a pleasant night.
Last Saturday I took a trip 3 hours drive up country with my daughtet, son-inlaw, son, and grandson, to a pretty country town called Avoca. The story behind it is that Pam and David, daughter/son/in law, had been given 2 free raffle tickets to win a block of land in Avoca, BUT you had to go there to register the tickets, you couldn't do it anywhere else! So it was a lot of driving, but nice visiting a pretty little country town, we did a lot of walking exploring the town, went to the river-- also called the Avoca, saw families of ducks swimming happily and looked at several preserved historical buildings.
We also looked at the block of land Pam and David may win!
Well. Tina, your question re heat was timely, as it was VERY hot yesterday, hottest day for 8 months.. and of course this will go on as it's not even officially our summer yet, still late Spring. My grey cat has very thick fur, and she sheds heaps, the ginger fellow has a thinner coat, and he doesn't so much. Usually when its really hot he goes outside somewhere and finds the shade of a tree or bush. She stays in and sprawls in front of the fan.
The 11th is also remeberance day for the war dead here. We oberve a minute's silence. Iwas at work, we were having a staff meeting but we stopped at 11am to observe the silence.
Well. must go for now, shopping day.. and books to go back to the library.
Hugs,
Ellie.

Finally a good week for me, the weather was mild all week,I felt like a human being all week and took advantage of it . Went to a craft fair, ate out with friends 3 times, plan on going to a collectable sale this morning.
I only have a few Christmas gifts to buy yet.Buying early in case after next chemo I am laid low again.
Husband recovering fairly well.Bo , my doggie has been such good company and so much fun.He seems to really understand the times that I do not feel well.I tell him he is my little mind reader and partner.
Just about all leaves are off the trees now, things will look bare until the snow comes. Our day for remembering the war veterns is Nov. 11, it is usually quite cold or cold and snowy by now but I for one am so glad to have this mild weather.Phyllis I think you are experiencing the same.
Ellie do your cats mind when it turns real hot there? Do they shed a lot of hair in your summer?

Well, we don't celebrate Thanksgiving here in Aus.(think I've said that before) but I love hearing about the American/Canadian/ thanksgiving.. my nephew in Canada sent me a really funny pic of a pumpkin scarecrow. That pumpkin race sounded hlarious Tina, I wish I'd been there to see that! Good to hear Ralston is improving Tina, and I hope your little grandaughters will be soon all over their ear infections Phyliss.
We are currently having lovely weather too, fine and sunny.. but not too hot (yet) I was in our local Coles supermarket this morning, and the shelf stackers were busy putting all the Xmas stuff on the shelves, Xmas cakes, tinned plum puddings, chocs, boxes of crackers. I went 'GULP!" Does xmas stuff appear as early over there?
Mind you, having a lot of small grandchildren now. 5 of them all four years old an under, I have started early Xmas shopping, and some of them have birthdays in the next few months as well! I can't afford extravagant gifts.so they will be getting things like books and tee shirts, and really simple things are best.
On Saturday some of the family including me are going to visit a donkey sanctuary. They rescue ill, unwanted and mistreated donkeys. They don't get any govt support, so rely on donations. Last Xmas we adopted 2 donkeys. They stay at the shelter, but you get photos and progress reports and you can go and see them. So, we're going to see 'our' donkeys!
Just been busy with the usual things..my community garden work, the writing groups and so on.. oh, and am on the planning committee for a 30th birthday party on Dec 6th.. its a party for a house! Span Community House that I've belonged to for many years has it's 30th year coming up, so we're planning a celebration, food, musical items, photo displays, childrens activities.. and so on..
It should be fun.
Have a good weekend, hope your bursitis improves soon Tina.

So nice to hear from you both Ellie and Phyllis. I hope the childrens ear infections have healed by now.
We are also having the most beautiful array of fall colors. The leaves are extra beautiful this year.Next week my youngest son and his wife and 4 friends are travelling to your area Phyllis, they have their hotel booked and are planning on Christmas shopping and touring.Mostly it is a fun trip.
My husband is still in hospital but is getting better, he had lost the use of his legs but can now walk with a walker, they are trying in physio to get him walking free again. I am doing good but am in great pain at times,I got bursitis in my shoulder, I sure didn't need this right now.
Starting chemo again this Friday.
Cynthia,Zoe and I went to the pumpkin races in the valley Sunday.First watched the parade then went to this big lake where 60 giant pumpking were released in the water with a man or woman in each, then they paddled to the other side of the lake, about twenty some made it to the opposite side.Other pumpkins sunk and the person in each was picked up by awaiting boats. Some were giant squash.Howard Dill the man who perfected the seeds "which now sell world wide"
was from the area where the races were held. They hold them every year now.Sadly Howard died of cancer last year,he was 73.
I had thanksgiving dinner at Cynthias yesterday with most of the family.I know your thanksgiving is in November Phyllis.I always think of the wax musuem in Plymouth, right across from Plymouth rock when I think of your thanksgiving Phyllis.I was there 13 years ago.Ellie it depicts the landing of the pilgrims , the forefathers of America, when they landed, fought the Indians etc. There is a replica of the Mayflower, the ship they landed in , and the big rock they first put foot on.
Now that is your history lesson for today-lol
Have a great week ladies.

Hi Ellie & Tina,
We are having a beautiful fall day with foliage at its peak in some places. The temperature is very pleasant, very cool early in the morning but warming up later in the day.
My daughter took today off as preschool is closed due to Columbus day and she gave the other sitter a day off. It was nice as her dad and I spent the good part of the day with her. Her husband had to work. We went along with her as she pushed both children in the double stroller and we all had lunch together. She went to Subway here in town. They make great subs.
Both children are recovering from ear infections and are on medication. They are going back for rechecks late Friday afternoon. When one child goes to preschool, they usually bring colds & germs home to their siblings. Ashley is so young to have an ear infection.
Halloween will be here before long. Our neighborhood is well decorated with pumpkins, ghosts, big black plastic spider, etc. There are several families with children on my sister's street which is just around the corner from me.
Sending my best to you both and hope everyone is doing well.
Phyllis

Hello Tina and Phyliss. Sorry I'm late again. I've been away. We had our annual writing conference in Benalla, up country, about 2 hours drive from here, that was Fri,Sat and Sunday of this past week. We stayed at a place called Trekkers Rest, clean and comfortable, did lots of writing exercises, sat out and enjoyed the big lawns/gardens in the sunshine, and just enjoyed it all. Tuesday I was back at work, and yesterday met my daughter for lunch, she does vol work on Wednesdays at her local op shop, so I travelled up there on the train(s) takes about an hour and a half each way.
Tina, how is Raslton now? And you? Lots of spring cleaning going on t your house. even though it's not your Spring! I hope you are feeling less tired. Are you able to go out yet?
Phyliss. Hello. Hope all is well with you.
A laugh. I was out yesterday, and when I got home and opened the front door I was face to face with a huge tiger!!
My house share person had also gone out and bought a very big wall hanging of some velvety material of this enormous tiger on a black background. He'd put it on the living room wall. You can see directly in there up the hall when you open the front door.
My cats don't seem at all worried by their big cousin!
Have a g0ood week, ladies.
hugs. Ellie.

Phyllis thank you so much for the beautiful card and prayers. I am healing pretty good.
My husband is still in serious condition.
Bo is such good company, he sleeps on my hip when I lay on my side on the couch watching tv.The programming is terrible but it is company.
Ellie I suppose your climate is warming up a bit while ours is cooling down although it is not too bad for this time of year.
My neighbor bought me over some lovely blueberries that she picked last evening at a high bush plantation which also has a winery. My oldest daughter shampoed my carpets for me last week,Living room, dining room and one bedroom but since that I decided to hire someone to take out the carpet from Ralstons bedroom.Actually I hate carpet but can't afford to put some other covering or hardwood down on the living room and dining room floors.
I am having Ralstons bedroom ,my bedroom and the bathroom re-painted, all the rest of the rooms are fine.
My Kevin took me grocery shopping and to the bank to cash some cheques,I was out of money and out of food, I still am not allowed to drive my car yet nor would I dare to, have to heal deeper before I do that.
All the best !

I am healing slowly , I suppose I am healing normally but to me it seems so slow. Not being able to drive my car for a least 6 weeks is like a pain in the butt-lol.
My oldest son and wife kept my doggie Bo while I was in Hospital and yesterday I felt well enough to have him back home.He ran in the house, rolled on his back and put all 4 paws in the air. After that he sat by me the rest of the day.
My husband is very slowly improving,he has a type of blood poisoning that comes from poor blood circulation and is very dangerous.
I sat on the back patio a while yesterday and although not many leaves have fallen off the trees a few were floating like little sailboats being driven by a breeze on my pond.
Last night the full harvest moon was so beautiful, this world is surely a wonderful mystery.

Don't say it may be your last time together. Okay, I know you are being practical, preparing for something that you think may eventuate, but go with hope and faith as you have done before, and hopefully there will be many more times with your loved ones.
Thanks for telling us about Bo, he sounds so sweet and lovable.
I've read several books by Ann Rule, from our library. I love reading magazines too, but don't buy them any more because they are so expensive here, but fortunately a friend gives me a whole bundle of them about once a month when she and the person she is carer for have finished with them. I don't mind that they are a little out of date.
Then when I've finished them I give them to a neighbour who nurses at an old people's home, and she takes them in for them to read, so they get circulated around.

Hello Ladies..Still bitterly cold here, but I really shouldn't complain as I dislike intense heat more! The other day I was to go visit a friend and as I don't drive it means a tram, then bus to get to her place, well, early morning it started to rain and poured all day so we took a raincheck (lol) on my visiting. So yes, we are getting some good rain, enough I hope to help the water catchment areas.
Next Friday my little great grandaughter,Jemillah turns three, so on Saturday we are having a small birthday party for her;Lovely to see and be with the little ones.
Tina and Phyliss.. do you both read a lot? It's one of my favorite things to do, and winter is a great time to do it. I'm at the library every week, often more than once a week, and on these cold afternoons when chores are done, or I don't have to be out somewhere, I fill my hot water bottle and go to bed and read, it's a lovely, peaceful interlude that I enjoy very much.Usually my grey cat is sleeping on the end of the bed too!
Tina, you haven't mentioned Bo for a while. How is he?
Next Thursday a bunch of us from my work are going on a bus trip to look at three community gardens around our area, which should be intersting.. work related too, as I'm our community garden supervisor, though our 'patch' is very small, and most of the growing is done in pots.
Phyliss, hope all is going well with baby sitting your little ones.
Have a good week.
Hugs from Ellie.

Over half of our summer days have been rainy, wish we could send it to the parts of Australia that need it. One plus is that everything is so lush and green, tomatoes growing like weeds, flowers are brilliant. Was invited out to two dinners this week, one tomorrow with 5 sisters in law ,it will be at a converted 100 yr old building that once was a school, kept as near to the school theme as possible and also be a tea room. The have wonderful chowders, soups, sweets and different types of breads. Mondays menu at a friends was tuna melt and peach cobbler with ice cream, beautifully fine that day so we ate on her
lovely patio.
Today we had hodge podge at home, green and yellow bean pods with sugar pea pods, carrots, onion and potato, all cooked in one pot, then drained and covered with cream and butter...oh so good but bad for the cholesterol and waistline. I was good, didn't eat any goodies after that.
Phyllis I bet you have been getting about as much rain as we have. If this were winter we would be buried in snow.
Oh Ellie, the glories of spring facing you, wish I were rich so I could travel and share in spring in Australia.
The more I see on tv about Australia, the more I want to see. What an interesting country.
Well ladies , all the best 'tl next time.

Hello Tina and Phyliss, at last catching up again on a beautiful, sunny (but still cold) winter morning. This is our last month of winter, September starts our Spring (two of my sons have Sept bithdays LOL!) Daffodils and jonquils are already flowering in local gardens. At the moment both of my cats are sunning themselves on the balcony, sunshine has been a rare commodity lately.
So what have I been doing since recovering from the wretched flu? Well, my normal stuff, my gardening job one day a week, writing group, lots of written work, as I'm editor of the work newsletter, also Sec of our writing group, we had our annual general meeting last night. Have you noticed how no-one wants to go on committees??
Some family outings, and an 80th birthday party for a friend Tabitha. which was a really lovely happening.
Ladies, I think of you often. Tina, hope the pain stays at a manegeable level, and that your operation goes very well. Enjoy that swimming!
Phyliss.long days baby sitting, I know you will love it, but don't get too tired.
Wild life notes for Tina.. well, Phyliss too. Last week I was at my daughters place, she's not in the country, but rather outer suburbia, but many trees and and open grasslands around. A flock of about twenty white cockatoos landed in her front yard. We all went outside to look, and take photos. They weren't the white cockies with the big yellow crests, but a different sort, all white, with just a slash of bright pink feathers across their throats. I looked them up when I got home and found they are long beaked, or Eastern correllas. It's a privilege to see wildlife in its natural habit.
Have a good weekend.. keep well.

Hope you are having a great summer/winter as the case may be-lol
I have been enjoying myself, mainly at the lake even though I know my surgery is slated for Sept 3, they will be taking at least a foot off my small bowel and hopefully they won't find any more cancer while they have me open.
I have some pain at times but so far not unbearable.
Hopefully going to a parade today if the weather complies.

Hi Tina & Ellie,
Thank you for your concerns and prayers. Luckily my community escaped the terrible storm. The area hit the hardest was 12 miles from our city. It was a tornado and New Hampshire does not normally have tornadoes. Usually states out west are easy targets for tornadoes.
9 communities in New Hampshire were effected by the storm. Winds gusted up to 135 miles per hour. The devasation looked like a war zone area. One of the houses that collaped killed a 57 year old grandmother who was watching her 3 month old grandson. Her husband was blown out of the house and survived with minor injuries. The grandson was admitted to the hospital and no report on his condition at this time. Over 100 houses were destroyed.
Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this very difficult time.
Our governor sent in the national guard and emergency help and they went house to house to check on everyone. There was all day coverage on our local station keeping everyone up to date. I believe there will be federal help to assist those in need.
Tina, I am so sorry that you received such news about the area in your hip area. You are such a dear person who enjoys sharing and caring of everyone you come in touch with. I know all of us are continuing to pray for you. I pray that God will continue to watch over you and that you will be alright. You are a fighter and taking one day at a day will get you through this.
Hugs,
Phyllis

Hi Tina & Ellie,
Tina, I am sorry to hear about your husband's brother.
I am thinking of you and praying that you will have a good report.
My first cataract surgery went well and I can see distance very well. My second surgery is on the 30th of this month. I do find putting in 3 different drops 4 x a day is someone difficult. Not always sure if I get them in correctly. I have been improving with practice.
I miss seeing my granddaughters, but have been taking a break. My daughter is still on maternity leave until August 13th. I will then resume taking care of the baby.
She is 7 weeks old today.
Tomorrow is my daughter and her twin brother's birthday. She is coming over for pizza and ice cream cake. Her dad,
(Michael) and my sister will be celebrating with us. I can't believe that she will be turning 38.
Luckily, my car repair was not too expensive. The garage I go to is located on my street. The owner is really good and honest. I usually bring him blueberry muffins and/or banana bread often because he has always been willing to help me with my old car. Once he came to my house and rolled my car down to his garage when it would not start.
We too have been getting lots of thundershowers and humid weather all this week.
Ellie, I hope all is well with you.
Please keep in touch.
Phyllis

Hi Ellie & Tina,
Ellie, sorry to hear that your flu lasted so long. I am glad that you are finally feeling better. Thanks for your message regarding my upcoming eye surgery.
Congratulations on the new baby arriving in January. How wonderful! They certainly will be a very busy family and as the children grow they will play and entertain each other. One neighbor who has 3 children (2 boys and a girl) says it is easier as they play together. When her brothers are off doing something special with their dad, the sister is waiting for them to return and play with her.
Happy Birthday to your husband, Tina. Sounds like a fun family celebration. I will be thinking of you on Tuesday.
My surgery is Wednesday so I am trying to catch up on household chores and errands. I will be having several follow up visits to eye doctor.
On Friday, my car was leaking oil. I have an appointment on Monday with the garage to have it repaired. Always seem to be something.
Wishing you both a good Sunday and good week.

Yesterday the fog moved in, guess it will be with us all day today as well. Hope Tuesday is fine because that is Canada day with parades, celebrations,barb-b-ques and many other events, garden parties etc. Phyllis your big day will be on the 4th as usual, my brothers birthday is that day so he always says the Americans have a big party for his birthday-lol
I did get to the lake a few days but it still is not our typical swimming weather, either it is too cold or the water is too cold, this year will only have July and August left for swimming , perhaps first 2 weeks of sept if we are lucky. With gas so expensive there are only about 1/4 of the boaters in the harbour or on the lakes which is good for the ducks, loons and other birds.
I have been getting some painting done, when I was to one of the beaches the sea and sky were active with clouds and waves and i like the resulting painting. One can never really think they did a great painting because if they do they will never strive for better.
Ellie I hope your weather is good, I forgot if it gets quite cold where you live. Your country like ours is so vast that the weather varies from area to area.
Must scram and see what mischief I can get into today,

Hi Ellie & Tina,
Thanks for your congratulations on my new granddaughter.
I look forward to seeing her and I am fortunate to have my daughter so nearby.
Tina, I am glad that you are feeling much better from the flu. It sounds like you had a bad case of it. Did you get a flu shot or was it a different strain of the flu?
We too have had your type of weather. So hot one day, then very cool.
Michael (my ex) has been helping me with some outside work on the house. He is scraping my windows on the lower level and priming them and will then paint them. They haven't been done in years and I was afraid the wood would rot out. He does a little every day he feels up to it.
I have so many windows. The ones on the second floor will have to wait a year or two and I will have to hire a professional painter as it is too dangerous and Michael would not be able to do them.
My sister had a total thyroidectomy and they only kept her in the hospital one night. Medical care has certainly changed over the years. She will be returning to the doctor's in a week for a recheck. Hopefully, she will recover well at home. She and her husband do not have any children. They live within walking distance to my house.
I will be going to my daughter's house even though it is Saturday as I may take Kaitlyn to Kaleidoscope today.
My daughter's older brother and wife (the ones in Florida) shipped two very, very large boxes of their girls outgrow clothes and toys this week. Kaitlyn will not need any more summer clothes thanks to them. I also took some toys to my house as I like to have some on hand when Kaitlyn and Ashley come to visit. I also have a playpen, carriage that I bought at a good price from a friend.
I think of you gals often and enjoy reading your postings.
Wishing you and your family good health and happiness.

Congradulations Phyllis on the new granddaughter. How nice that you get to see them so often and as the ones in Floriday get older you can keep more in touch through computers.
Ellie , I have been terrible lax, since I got better I have spent all my spare time running around with my daughters or hubby or anyone who came to take us places.I was scared to drive my car until this week, I was getting light headed spells because I was quite weak from that flu bug I picked up. The lightheadedness only lasted seconds at a time but enough that I didn't trust to handle a car myself although otherwise I was feeling quite chipper.
Our weather has been really lovely except a one day heat wave and the next day it got so cold you almost needed a winter coat.
All my flowers are blooming so nicely and I have a "potted garden on my front patio" I plant flowering plants and tomato plants and have them all around on the patio rail.
I love to sit out there and read, especially since my Mothers day gift of the lovely patio table and chairs.
Cynthia and I and Darlene were going swimming yesterday but when we got to the lake "only 20 minutes from here" It was so windy and the lake was very rough, the water was warm but we would have frozen our but when we came out of the water.
All the best ladies, enjoy your families.

Hi Ellie & Tina,
Ashley Elizabeth arrived on June 2, at 11:09 a.m. Her birth weight was 7 lbs. 2 oz. 20 l/4 inches in length.
She has dark hair and a beautiful round face. We were expecting her to look like her sister who has light hair. Babies usually change their looks as they get older. I was able to be in the delivery room along with her husband for the c-section and took lots of pictures.
Ellie, I do not have your personal e-mail, if you have one and wish a picture please send your e-mail site to Tina and she can forward to me.
Tina, I will try to send you a picture from my computer, however I am still in the process of learning how to do so.
My digital camera works very well and I am able to transfer pictures to my computer.
My daughter came home on Thursday and I have been there every day to help her out. Kaitlyn turned 3 on June 7 and we went to Kaleidoscope (children's play place)as a special treat. Kaitlyn is adjusting well. Her mother explained that she cannot lift her for a long time because she is recovering from having Ashley. Also they she cannot sit on the floor to play with her.
I will keep you both up to date. I love holding my newest granddaughter (I now have 4 granddaughters, two here in town and two in Florida). Wishing you and your families good health.

I'm late again, like the white rabbit in Alice in Wonderland! Glad you both had a lovely time on Mothers Day. I did too, I received a lovely rose pink dressing gown from my daughter, a phone call, cheque and movie voucher from son and Family in Sydney, and a book by my fav. crime author Ruth Rendell, from youngest son and family. Also went out to family dinner in the evening at the home of my son-in-law's sister, 10 of us and a beautiful meal, lasagne and salad followed by wicked desserts, pavlova, lemon meringue pie, and cherry cheesecake. ooooh!
The reason I'm late is because I've had to put in extra days at work, we've been setting up our art show for 'Reconciliation" week, in at St Francis Church.. so it's been busy. The exhibition opened today. My youngest son has three paintings in the exhibition..it's the first time he's had his paintings in an art show, so he's excited.
Baby Rory is now 5 weeks old. I saw him on Sunday too.. so cute, and already laughing and gurgling!
Almost winter here, so colder days, but the trees are so pretty with showers of red, gold, orange Autumn leaves.
Have a nice weekend, Tina and Phyliss.. hope its real Springlike soon!

Wishing you a Happy Mother's Day!
We are having a beautiful sunny day today and I am looking forward to spending tomorrow with my daughter, sister and sister's friend. We are going out to celebrate at an Italian Restaurant for lunch. My daughter's husband will be watching Kaitlyn so she can enjoy celebrating with us.
My daughter had some professional pictures taken for my Mother's day gift. She had a picture of her and Kaitlyn and one of Kaitlyn but herself. I love pictures and have many different ones on my walls and hutch in my dining room/computer room.
The new baby is scheduled to arrive by c-section in 23 more days. I am counting the days, until her arrival. I will keep you posted.

Hi Tina. So sorry you've had a 'low' month, it comes to us all at times. Very good thoughts for your procedure on April 30th-- I pray all will be well. And congratulations to Zoe!
Actually I've had a 'low' time too, got a dose of what I think was salmonella poisoning from undercooked chicken from the canteen at work) Bad stomach cramps, and all the rest of the unpleasant symptoms, very tired.. went for over a week. So I missed a few social things that I had intended to go to.
Never mind, saw new baby Rory again, (now just 2 weeks old) that of course was a delight.
The cats got new collars this week. Bright candy pink for Grania (the girl) and yellow for Feller (the boy)
Well, Feller is so laid back, he just calmly sat while the old collar was taken off and the new one put on, but Grania behaved like the harpy from hell! She hissed, scratched, bit, tried to run away.. she's always been a very tempestous lady!
Hope your weather improves soon Tina. We are having a series of calm, sunny Autumn days.. but we do really need some rain.
Hello Phyliss!
Hugs and good thoughts.

I sure hope things are going great for you Ellie and Phyllis! I had a whole month of feeling down in the dumps.
Very tired, could have been a flu bug , or depression over the weather or something unknown to me.
Have to go for a biopsy on my boob April 30. Ultra sound shows a small growth, could be fatty tissue tumor / cancer or cyst. Mamogram is supposed to be best at detecting but it does not show on the mamogram.
One day it looks like spring is really here and the next day it is ugly out, wish mother nature would make up her mind. Some days you need a winter jacket in the morning and by noon only a sweater is needed.
Just thought I would touch base with you ladies ,the only productive thing I have done in the past month is to finish 2 paintings. Whoops..I almost forgot to brag.
Zoe got a trophy for her singing in the Bridgewater music festival and we won't find out how she did in the Lunenburg one until Stars of the festival night may 2.

Firstly the scorching hot weather continued on and on, then on Good Friday night I came down with a bug and was very tired sore and sorry for a few days and not feeling like writing or anything else really.
However I did get to see family on Friday and Sunday and distributed eggs/bunnies to the little ones. My darling little Matilda carried her choc bunny around for quite a time just cuddling it (lucky that was a cooler day so it didn't melt) then discovered there was CHOCOLATE inside the wrapping! We adults didn't exchange any Easter goodies this year.. we decided we were BIG people, but that didn't stop me sneaking off and buying myself an Easter egg!
Hope the rest of your week goes well.

- wonderful Easter -- Tina Swinimer, 11:07:49 03/25/08 Tue (hlfx47-142.ns.sympatico.ca/142.177.97.142)
Started the day with a surprise.when I went to take my doggie outdoors I was surprised by 3 home made Easter baskets full of goodies sitting on my deep freezer in the porch, Easter bunnies sneaked in during the night-lol .
I went to church hall at 9:30 where lots of the congregation had gathered for breakfast. At eleven to church itself. Zoe was in the choir. After church we went
to Cynthias where we stayed for the afternoon and mid afternoon meal after the Easter egg hunt outdoors.
Received 2 beautiful bouquets of plants that can be transplanted to the garden if spring weather ever does arrive.
Needless to say I went to bed early, enjoyed the day with family so much but had no trouble going to sleep early.
The weather , although a bit cold was sunny, that lent to a nice day.
I hope you enjoyed your week end Ellie and Phyllis.

Phyllis those girls of mine just got back at 1 a.m. this morning , just as another big storm has started, or at least the weatherman says it will be a big one, part from up the East coast and another from Newfoundland combining to be a big one, I hope most of it it off the coast over the ocean.
I thank you again for your phone number in case Cyn needed info. It was so re-assuring.
Ellie as you most likely have discovered as well , we never get over worrying about our families and I seem to have such adventure seekers. Son Curtis and wife just got back from Mexico as Daughter Cynthia and Granddaughter Zoe take off for the USA in bad snowy weather, as it turned out they had a great time, if either of you go into "facebook" on friends put Ernestine Swinimer and you can see lots of pictures by clicking on our pictures and clicking on the pictures of my friends list that is there.
Anyway, wishing you both a great week coming.

Wow Ellie you sweltering and us shivering..mother nature must be having a good laugh ! So wonderful that you can teach the girls and have fun as well.
Phyllis , cynthia and Zoe found their way to Sunday River,Maine..she drove 12 hours without a break, was so tired she had to go to a motel an hour before she planned, thank you for giving me your phone number in case she had to phone "a safe place like you" for directions. It made me feel a lot more content. She took her laptop and e-mailed me at eleven last night..cheaper than phoning-lol
12 years ago Cynthia travelled to Belize, not with a tour group and fearless Cynthia got lost for a few hours in a jungle with hollering monkeys..good thing I did not know all of it until after she came home. She has always been full of adventure.Zoe is only 12 but I think she is a chip off the old block-lol
Zoe won one of 2 star awards at a basketball tournament this past Saturday.
Have a great week ladies..Ellie , Phyllis and I wish to blow some of our cold air over to you.

We are in the middle of a dreadful heatwave that has been going on for days.. sorry that I haven't written lately-- the heat is so enervating all I want to do is flop in front of the fan (I don't have A/C and really fans do so little to help when it gets as hot as this, it's supposed to go on for at least another week, and this is our Autumn. No fair!
Well, I did make it to work today which was a little cooler than it has been, and worked with 2 'community service " high school girls, Stephanie and Olivia.. they are both just on 16, and really lovely girls. I introduced them to the joys of gardening, and we potted parsley, silver beet, thyme, and mint. They had never gardened before and really enjoyed it. They're with us for the rest of the week, and tomorrow will be doing art, making bookmarks and postcards.
What a beautiful night scene Tina. I love looking at the stars (what you can see of them in suburbia!)
Well, prosaically, I now have to take the rubbish downstairs to the bin!
Have a good week all.
Ellie.

It stayed icy all day yesterday , then to everyones surprise the temp. rose at night,by midnight all the ice was gone, now at 5 am I went out on the patio to see a sky full of stars and it is warm enough that I did not need a coat over my fuzzy bathrobe.I drank my coffee in the dark with the stars overhead.Heavenly!
Guess our art group will be able to get together this morning..grrreat!
Cynthia and Zoe are going to drive to Maine skiing this week end, school March break has started, I will have 4 or 5 days of worrying about them driving that far in winter's unpredictable weather. Will have to keep myself busy so time passes fast.

Wow! we awoke to a glass world this morning, schools, stores, everything closed until at least noon until they see what this weather is going to turn to.
right now everything is covered with what looks like glass from a steady flow of light freezing rain. Not the right temperature for snow, just cool enough to freeze the light rain as it comes down.I don't think there is a spot in my yard where I could stand up right now,I put a long leash on Bo while I stood on the covered patio, poor dog slipped and slid until he decided to have his morning pee.
This sure has been a year of odd weather and I just had to tell you about this one.

Hi Ellie & Tina,
We had about 6 inches of heavy snow Friday evening until Saturday morning. At least it was on the weekend. We are expecting freezing rain on Wednesday morning. There have been a lot of roofs collapsing throughout the state.
Michael has helped me with my flat roofs using a roof rake and also climbing up on a ladder on one small roof. I held the ladder and was nervous as the rungs on the ladder were slippery. I did not want him to attempt to do so, but he wouldn't listen to me.
Tina, I am glad that you and your husband were able to dine out so often. We all need to go out and have someone else do the cooking for us especially during the long winter months. Nancy, Mary and I enjoyed out recent restaurant trip. We celebrated Mary's birthday at "The Common Man", with lunch. I had baked haddock, mashed potatoes and squash. It was just great to be with friends and catch up on everything.
Happy Birthday to your son. The years go by so fast and it is hard to believe that are adult children are reaching middle age.
Ellie, I imagine you are keeping busy and that your weather is so much nicer than ours.
I am overdue for a haircut and have an appointment tomorrow. My hairdresser is within walking distance in the good weather, however at the present time due to the conditions of the sidewalks I will have to drive.
My former high school class is still very active and they are in the process of publishing a cookbook with some of our favorite family recipes and stories behind them. We will then donate money from the sales of the cookbooks to our local high school. Next year will be our 50th class reunion. We held our last reunion in 2004.
I should sign off as I really need to do some housework and run a couple of errands.
I hope you gals have a good week.
Phyllis

Hello Ladies.Well, I had a birthday last Friday. It wasn't such a big deal as my O birthday last year when I had a party etc. My daughter, granddaughter and little great grand all went into the city together, looked around shops )book shops mainly!) then had lunch together so it was just a nice laid back sort of day, then on Sunday we went to a big local organic festival.. there were all sorts of organic fruits and veg, crafts, demonstrations and so on, so that was another pleasant day.
So, do I feel older.. perhaps I AM creaking a little more!
Weather is currently pleasant, actually I think we're starting with an early Autumn this year, leaves are already coloring, around a month early so maybe it means we will have an extra cold winter this year. Your drive out sounded beautiful Tina. All that lovely blue and white description..
Hugs
Ellie.

We have had such changeable weather, last week rain - so much that it made a lot of rivers overflow, then 2 nice days, then back to the deep freeze and snow. today is supposed to be fine butonly around plus 2. Oh how I wish for an early spring!
Nothing exciting going on, one of our sons and wife took us on a 1 hour trip to a different restaurant yesterday, the food was very good and as we travelled down the coast the scenery was beautiful, highlighted by bright blue sky and sparkling snow and deep blue ocean, the contrasts were stunning.Just a perfect day even if it was cool.
Mostly all I have been doing is crosswords, watching t.v.,reading and sleeping.A few short walks with Bo,hard to beleive he will be a year old on March 6th, I didn't get him until May but will celebrate his birthday with a little cake-lol
My youngest grandchild Zoe will be 12 on March 5th seems impossible to me that the years went that fast.
I hope you ladies are having everything going to your liking.will say bye for now!

Hi,Gals.. Phyliss, hope you have a lovely Valentine's day with your friends, and Tina.. hope something nice is in store for you too. Alas, I have no husband, partner, or even ummmm. lover, so I'm not expecting any flowers, chocs, or other attentions.
Tina, your story about your hospital cancellation and the boilers, reminded me of a letter from a Canadian friend years ago. She had a rather controlling husband, and he said the oven was a big mess and she should clean it before it caught on fire. So, she left the 3 children with him, jumped in the car and drove to the store to get some ovencleaner, and when she got there the STORE was on fire!! We had a very good (long distance) laugh over that.
I'm sure Caitlin will settle in well with the other children Phyliss. My little grandson,Alexander, started kindergarten recently, he's three and a bit. He only goes 2 days a week, but his Dad said he loves it.
Have a good week.. well, what's left of it!

Would you beleive that the day I was to have my scan two boilers in the hospital blew up and everything was cancelled. No fire but no Hosp heat of hot water etc.Now they have to re-schedule me.
Here we are with rain, then snow for today, and tomorrow,I am getting sick of it.A nice snow that would stay a week so you could enjoy the beauty of it would be nice.
Ellie I hope your birthday is a very happy one followed by a wonderful year.
Phyllis your daughter is smart to enroll her little daughter in pre school now.She will not feel that she is being traded off because of the new baby.
I got an e-mail complete with pictures from a vetinary friend who lives in Germany but owns 2 homes in our area, she only comes to Nova Scotia a month or so a year. The pictures were of flowers and her hubby out sunning himself..Sprin has sprung in Germany..lucky folks.
A pretty 12 year old girl in our area had an argument with her mom and when her mom went in a store the girl ran away and tried to walk across the ice in Lahave river, she either fell and knocked herself out and died of exposure or something, last night after her missing 2 weeks her body was found on an ice floe.It is so sad. I feel so badly for the mother who was only trying to get her to stop seeing an older fellow.
Ellie it is so nice to know you are busy at things that are so interesting.
Must run for now..all the best to you ladies.

Hi Ellie & Tina,
I just read both your recent postings.
Tina, Congratulations on your 55 year wedding anniversary and your looking forward to celebrate with breakfast meals.
When the weather is so icy it is a good idea not to travel unless absolutely necessary. We too have had a harsh winter so far and it is expected to continue with more snow this weekend.
Tina, it was expensive to get your car inspected but we really do not have much choice. We do not have good public transportation here in our town. Ellie, it is great that you have good transportation and can get around. Cars are so expensive with registration, car insurance and repairs.
Ellie, best wishes on your upcoming birthday. Our birthdays seem to come faster each year.
I watched Kaitlyn 4 days in a row because she was sick with a constantly running nose and very bad cough. My daughter took her to the drs who said it was a viral infection and had to run it course. Kaitlyn is going to start preschool 2 days a week next week. My daughter does not want to wait to send her as she wants her to be comfortable going there before the new baby arrives.
I am especially thinking of you Tina today and send my best for a good report. You are always in my prayers.
Best wishes to both of you and hope you have a good week.
Phyllis

Sorry! I didn't read the messages before I posted a few minutes ago, so have a few things to answer! yes Tina, we do have to have yearly 'roadworthy'checks on cars here.I don't bother me none, as I don't have a car! It's walking and public transport for me.
And congratulations on your 55th wedding anniversary, that's really something, and a family breakfast sounds lovely. My birthday is in a couple of weeks, my daughter already asked me what I want. I don't know! Just to be with them is enough for me. I remember one other year when one of my sons asked me what I wanted for my birthday and I said.. 'Ummmm. A ream of A4 paper?"
They cost about $6 here, and he burst out laughing.
Ellie.

Hi Tina and Phyliss. Tina this is basically to send you all good thoughts for your scan on February 8, will be thinking of you. So you both still have snow and ice. Still summer here, but fortunately the last days haven't been devastatingly hot. My brother and wife (Kingston Ontario) left for a months holiday in South Carolina. Will it be much warmer there?? I think even there it will not be what we Aussies call 'swimmin' weather"
I'm now back at work, setting up the garden area for this years volunteers, and also back at my writing groups again which is very nice. Hey, today I got two party invitations, one at the end of Feb, for the co-ordinator who is leaving the position at the community house I belong to, and one for an 80th birthday party. That one's not till August! But she is inviting people well in advance!
Nice to be on the social A list. LOL!
Hugs to you both.

Yesterday our weather started with snow than changed to freezing rain. I was lucky that Michael gave me a ride to and from my daughter's house as it was my day to watch Kaitlyn. I would have dreaded to drive in this type of weather.
This morning, my whole front walk is a sheet of ice. I threw sand and salt on it and I am hoping that I will be able to chop the ice away as the day warms up.
Tina, I imagine you probably have had bad weather too. Hopefully you do not have to travel anywhere in it.
I am baking a spinach quiche from a old recipe that I use to make for my mother and me. I haven't made it in years, but had all the ingredients so thought I would try it. I guess you can tell that my mind is always on food. I have not been to the supermarket this week so I am using my imagination in creating some different dishes.
I do have to venture out tonight as I plan on going to calling hours because a family friend's mother passed away.
She was in the nursing home and was 97 years old.
I hope both you gals are having a good weekend and look forward to reading your postings.
We have the football superbowl to look forward to this Sunday. My children are all great football fans so therefore I have watched it often and enjoy sharing the sport with them.
Best wishes,
Phyllis

Had a nice week even though we are in a "deep freeze" Minus 12 or 14 with wind chils to minus 27 cels.At least the roads are all cleared and bare for driving. Re-stocked the foods yesterday. Feb. could be bad driving again so we bought quite a few groceries, one store had a big sale on roasts and potatoes.Made my favorite "lazy" dinner when I came home, mixed hamburg & rice & can tomatoes, pinch ginger, salt. Layered cabbage in bottom of the roast pan, then layered the hamburg mixture, then layered on more chopped up cabbage, honey garlic sauce and some heintz ketchup..put it in the oven 2 hours, at 350...oh so good and always better 2nd day.I make enough always for 2 days and sometimes vary the spices as long as the main ingredients are tomatoes, rice and hamburg, cabbage.
I can't remember if I told you the "biscuit eater" has walls lined with book shelves, some of the rooms have used books, some new books and the romm where you eat has browsing books. The background music is always lovely, soothing type.In summer a very large patio has tables so you can enjoy the gardens that surround it while you eat, read or chat. All this is in and around an old house that has great charm ,rooms were painted keeping in mind the style of the house.
MY scan is going to be on Feb.8 so I don't find out my medical treatment fate until then. I am enjoying this break in the chemo treatments but I do wonder what is growing or not. Feeling good but a bit more tired than I was, but that could be from the cold weather.
Wishing you all the best!

Hi Gals! Phyliss congratulations on your forthcoming new grandchild.. may have mentioned.. me too.. youngest son and wife are expecting their second baby in April. Unlike your expectant ones, they want the sex to be a surprise.. as they did with their first one, Matilda, 2.
Some things really stick in your mind don't they? I will never forget Simon ringing me at 11-45 pm and saying huskily 'You have a new granddaughter" The baby was only minutes old at the time.
Thank you ladies for wishing cooler weather on me! The last week or so has been lovely, fine, sunny days, but not hot, mostly with a cool breeze blowing.
Tina, what a great name for a cafe The Biscuit Eater--Most years our writing group puts out a book of our writing and we have to think of a name for the book. Some of the group also belong to choirs, so one year we named the book.. 'We don't just eat biscuits.. some of us sing" People thought that was hilarious.
Have a good week.
Hugs,
Ellie.

Hi Ellie & Tina,
Today is my birthday and I want to share some very happy news with you gals.
My daughter is expecting a baby in June. Kaitlyn will be 3 in June also and we are all so happy that she will have a sister or brother. My daughter is going for an ultra-sound soon and if they are able to determine the sex she and her husband would like to know. I will share the news with you when I hear.
I will continue to help her out by watching the new baby too.
I remember that 6 years ago on my birthday I was in Florida as I stayed 2 weeks with my first granddaughter, Ariana was born.
Time goes by so fast.
Thanks for being my dear on-line pals.

What a lovely mother you are Tina.. big congrats to your twin sons on their upcoming 50th-- my son-in-law David, will also be 50 in March. My daughter also has twin sons, there is 2/1/2 years between them and their elder sister, and I remember how busy she was.. you had just 13 months between the twins and your next child. Wow!
Unfortunately No -even tho we have a cool spell at the moment we have had more dreadfully hot days.. and so it will continue till summer is over. January is not my favorite month, it's so hot, and all my usual things, the writing groups, the theater group etc are in suspension, so in January I haunt the library and do LOTS of reading.
Oh, I saw the sweetest little puppy today when visiting friends, only 9 weeks old, a little black and white fluffy baby, they've named her Suzy. It's an animal house, they also have another dog, a beautiful big tank of exotic fish, and two budgies. They are loved and beautifully cared for.
Hello Phyliss.. hope you are well.

Here we are enjoying a week of unseasonally warm weather.Up to 10 cels, rain took away all the snow except for a few snow banks that the plows had piled extra high to clear roads and driveways.Tomorrow I think we will go back to winter weather, snow is once again forecast.
The next province to us still has lots of snow and there was a terrific accident, a van carrying a basketball team collided with a truck, 7 students and a coaches wife were killed instantly.Even though I didn't know any of them my heart goes out to their families.
Winter can be beautiful but also very cruel.
My twin sons will be 50 on Jan 23..my how the years flew past! Actually even with my cancer I don't feel any older than 50 myself! Aah the great memories, two over 6 pound babies, rare weight for twins..they were such good babies as was the next son who was not on order but came along 13 months later,he will be 49 in March.I used to push the carriage with the twins sitting up and Darrell laying down between them. They were a joy to love,I was really blessed.
Oh how I enjoyed all 7 of my children and thankfully I am still enjoying them and their children.Yesterday my oldest daughter and my 2 oldest granddaughters went out to lunch together and had a nice chat. These are the times that make life so good as you mothers know.
Hopefully Ellie your weather has cooled down some,Phyllis I hope you have had a "warm spell" of weather like we did, even if the winter weather comes back full force like I am sure it will , this warm spell will shorten the season a bit. It sure was a nice break!

Sounds like everyone had a great Christmas week and just to cool Ellie off, imagine a few weeks of just 2 or 3 above zero interspersed with some minus 22 cels nights or a bit colder, lots of snow and some windy days that made one feel much colder that the actual temperature..where is that global warming when one needs it? Oh I know it is over at Ellies !
Was to my regular New Years haunt, the neighbors, music and good food. Last night they phoned and asked if I was well enough for a 6 hander of cards,I said I would love to play, we had a good time.
I spent 4 hours yesterday putting away the christmas gifts and all the decorations and another hour un-trimming the tree. I feel sad that it is over.
I hope I live to do it all over again, never expected to be here for this one so I must be thankful for that.
Today "it is only 5 am right now" but it promises to be a fine day, I plan on going grocery shopping, amazing how food takes up so much of our time. There are some good sales on veggies at our nearest store, Like a bunny I love broccoli , too bad one can't keep it for longer periods, anyway big bunches only 99 cents today, I make a mustard/garlic/mericle whip dip and eat it raw and my little dog is also crazy over it.I don't know what else I want yet but I will make a list before I go, I find I save money if I stick sort of close to my list instead of buying at random.
Well folks, once again wishing you all the good things in life for the year 2008 , may it be wonderful, happy and successful.

But was able to enjoy my family even though I could not get out visiting, they were all here "children and grandchildren"on Christmas eve day and Christmas eve night, some in the afternoon and the rest in the evening, next day Kevin drove Ralston & I to Cynthias where 14 of us ate dinner.I couldn't drive my car until Friday. We had a very delicious dinner, we came home at 4 pm , I went to bed for a nap but the nap lasted until 7 am the next morning.
Received lots of lovely gifts, books, magazine subscriptions, real warm coat, pillows that feel like sleeping on clouds, chocolates, coffees, set of pots, dust buster, big cans of cookies, cute doorstep wooden reindeer, iron elephant for my collection, photo album & a goodie box full of juices, maple syrup, maple butter,scissors,2 books, cnavasses for painting , paint tubes, acrylic spray coating, paint tray. Sure is a lot of things , but all very useful, ooh and a very large container of all home made cookies, and was thrilled to get an Australian calender from Belinda , dodo, and some post cards of her beautiful photography, she is an amazing person.I was totally surprised and pleasantly so.
Tonight, now that I am feeling better I am accepting the invitation from my neighbors and going to their house, new years party, have gone there last 6 years and always enjoyed myself, they have musicians, some country, some classic, lots of goodies to eat, fireworks.
No mere chemo until after a scan in February, my body has to have a rest, they will plan their next medical decisions after my scan.
pretty outside right now with lots of new snow !
Once again best wishes for a great 2008 !

How lovely and Christmassy it all sounds at your place Tina. Afew days ago I got some (computer) photos from my bro.in Canada. He had just finished putting the Xmas lights up outside, it looked so beautiful.. all the colored twinkling lights against the snow (they got plenty) There were also some inside photos of the Xmas tree, and his little grandaughter (my great niece) Jessie who turns one today. Also their dogs, 2 airedales, who looked very happy to be inside in the warmth.
I have most of my Xmas gift shopping done, but haven't done any decorating yet (we're slow in Australia!) Some happy news is that my son in Sydney, his wife, and their 2 little boys, Alexander, 3 and Ben 18 months are able to come down during the holiday season.. not actually for Xmas day as Darren has to work across that period, but around the 27th/28th.
Yes, the play rehearsals are keeping me (too) busy.. Iwill be glad when the performance is over.. its on Dec 15th..
Tina, I hope any further chemo before Xmas leaves you well enough to be able to enjoy Xmas.. what a darling Bo seems to be.. a real comfort and treasure.
Hugs,
Ellie.

My goodness Phyllis, I see by this mornings paper that you folks had a terrific storm. Hope you are safe and have elect. power. Whenever they predict a bad storm for here I fill 2 thermoses with hot water, if the power goes out I can add the hot water to canned soup, be sure you have a manual can opener-lol, or add it to coffee, hot choc. etc.
Ellie can just set her soup out in the sun if their power goes out for any reason-lol Right Ellie? I guess cold soup would even taste good in that heat-lol
I also have a few big plastic containers full of water standing on the floor of a bathroom closet at all times in case I need it for toilet flushing.I am certain you are like me with a good supply of candles and flashlights,I also have one of those new wind up radios and a wind up flashlight. Those I bought mainly for camping in summer.I was sick of buying batteries, these will also take batteries in case one gets lazy. They will go about 1/2 hour on a two minute wind-up.
We just got a few inches of snow overnight and supposed to get 4 inches of heavy snow this afternoon "the tail end of your storm Phyllis"
Ellie I suppose you are smelling the roses! Good for you.
Do you bother to plant a garden of veggies? I used to do that until these last few years,I still plant flowers if someone gives me roots of the kind that will come up every year.I sure got lazy these last few years. But I am still young...100 is getting old , 72 is young !

Hi Tina and Phyliss, lol.. I know what snow is, just that it's in very short reply where I live. We had some more very hot days, then a day of thunderstorms and torrential rain, and my daughters place got flooded. Not ground water, it came in through the roof in their bedroom, and poured down the inside of the window and door, what a mess, but fortunately that was the only room that was affected. I'm sorry my mails are so brief lately, I always seem to start writing just before I have to go somewhere. ie, I must leave in a few minutes to go to a play rehearsal. Thinking of you both, will try to write more fully soon.

Hello ! Phyllis and Ellie. Yesterday was so beautiful,it is still dark out now but I imagine it will be just as lovely today! I won't do any driving today though unless I phone my son who lives a minutes drive from here. If he says the roads have been plowed bare and salted I may go down town.I live on an unpaved road, very short one but cannot see the paved road from here, picture a "z" follow that shape and it takes me to the bottom of the z and that is the start of the paved highway. The paved highways get cleared and salted first.Actually our road is a secondary so only gets sanded so salt doesn't permeat private wells.
Had my real strong chemo on Friday, they pumped me full of drugs first so that I didn't go into a reaction like the last 2 times. They can loose you in minutes if you have a strong reaction.I did not go into even a mild one this time but was very sick yesterday from the drugs and to make matters worse was too hyper to sleep so I didn't have the pleasure to sleep it off. I knew the danger of this one so I had wrapped everyones Christmas gifts "half were wrapped last week" but I was afraid if something happened to me that they wouldn't know whose gift was whose.I did my shopping early. My next big chemo is Dec. 21. Now in case you know anyone on chemo..don't panic them,,these reactions rarely happen unless you have been getting chemo at high doses as long as I have. They are palative care doses, just to keep the cancer from giving constant pain, there is no cure at this stage but I could hang in there a while yet, I have no pain since first of Aug. except the nasty few days after chemo and that is not pain ,liken it to a terrible hangover! I did have 3 hangovers in my life-lol thought apple jack was like apple cider..drank several glasses..wow was I sick. Tried to cure a flu with Newfoundland screech and hot water and sugar..found out later Newfoundland screech is over 500 proof..cured the flu but what a hangover.Went to a dance where someone kept putting vodka in my drink every time I was up dancing..found out who did it later but not before I was very very tipsy. So now you know my three big sins-lol.
Since I was so hyper yesterday and got everything possible done in housework I have all day to paint..I am so happy I went back to painting, was very pleased with my last three canvasses, with the new acrylics you don't have to use turps and chemicals in acrylics are nil now.Took a while to get the brush feel of the new medium instead of oil painting. I do some watercolors but like the freedom of oils and acrylics.
Wednesday night is a big seniors party at the fire hall, music, dancing, e a t i n g -lol..I am planning to go,hope I feel great by then.
Going to start putting Christmas light up and doing some interior Christmas trimming this week here at my place.
It is 5:53 am here..my little dog is by my side..oh what a joy he is for both Ralston and I. Since Ralston rarely wants to go anywhere in winter Bo is such good company for him. Bo often sits on Ralstons lap to wait until I come home.or he sleeps on the ottoman by Ralstons feet.Ralston of course is constantly watching tv. we had one of those big 50 some inch screens in the living room, smaller ones in the kitchen, bedrooms, dining room..yep you got it! He lives for t.v. But is getting so stiff from sitting around,,no exercise for his arthritis.
Oh well thats enough of the saga from the Swinimer household...hope youy ladies are doing fine and having happy days.

Hi Tina and Phyliss, it's late night after a busy day, so this won't be too long this time, but just wanted to say that Phyliss, the description of the wedding was just really beautiful, and lovely for the family to be together. I love those sugar almonds! And for both of you, we don't celebrate Thanksgiving here in Australia.. not that we're not thankful--! It's just that it's not one of our celebrations coming from a different 'cultural' start,ie, the first white residents were not free settlers but convicts.. Yep, we were not more than a big penal colony for all England's miscreants. Nor is Halloween a widely recognised or celebrated festivity here. Apart from Xmas/New Year, I guess our 'biggie' is Australia Day, which is Jan.26th.
We've just had a day of beautiful, beautiful rain, after 5 consecutive days of heat... now there's a reason to be thankful!
Ellie.

I love getting together with family and friends at thanksgiving.I loved it more when the children were little and made paper turkeys and colored orange paper pumpkins & we had baskets of pine cones to give a nice smell and later used them to burn in the stove. Those days they helped me bake and decorate the cookies..thank goodness we have the memories.

Hi Tina & Ellie,
My son, his bride-to-be, and her maid of honor arrived here in town 5 days before the wedding to get everything in order. The girls stayed one night here and then stayed at a hotel nearby. They had to make sure everything was in order, decorating, last minute details, etc for the reception. My daughter and I helped out in any way we could. It was fun to be included in all the activities.
My son from Florida and his wife and my 2 granddaughter, Ariana & Athena arrived on Friday (they stayed at a hotel nearby) and we gathered at my daughter's house so Kaitlyn could meet her cousins for the first time. Kaitlyn enjoyed playing with them. We and the bride-to-be's parents arrived on Friday and we all went out for dinner at a restaurant called "The Common Man". It was so wonderful to share these special moments for us all.
The wedding was held on October 13th, a beautiful Saturday morning at the Audubon Society grounds. The justice of the peace, who was the sister of my son's best friend, performed the ceremony outside in the garden area. It was a beautiful day with the sun shining. The wedding began at 12:30. The bride's father escorted her down the pathway. My son and his bride-to-be had choosen their wedding vows they would exchange. Everything went well and it was a perfect day to celebrate with our families and friends.
The reception followed at the Audubon Society's large hall which was recently done over. There was lots of light shining through the windows and each table had white candles and fresh flower arrangements.
Guests sat with 8 or so at each table. The food was catered by a professional group who did an excellent job. The main menu was roast beef, oven roasted potatoes, rice pilaf, 3 kind of salads including Greek salad, rolls, mixed vegetables. In addition to the 3 layer cake with 3 different fillings (delicious) a tray of homemade Baklava was served. Favors were white & colored almonds with little silver wedding rings attached with a bow in white and lavender netting
Soft music was played throughout the afternoon, then later more lively music was provided. A professional photograper took many pictures. My dear friend Nancy took a video and gave the couple a copy for a wedding present. She also gave me a copy too.
I was truly blessed that the wedding was held here in Concord. I am so happy that my daughter-in-law wanted to hold it here.
My son & daughter-in-law stayed with me Sunday evening before heading back to their new home in Colorado. I also had the pleasure of meeting my daughter-in-law's maid of honor, her best friend.
Thanks again and wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving. Ellie I believe you celebrate yours at a different date.
Sending my best wishes,
Phyllis

Yes, Tina. I'm fine, sorry- but as you said..busy! Lovely to catch up on all your news. My last few weeks have been busy with play rehearsals, then the play.. which is called Princess Apocolypta and the Cane Toad. I had a dreadful cold at the time the play was on and felt awful during the performance, but Hey, I. and the rest of the cast survived, and the audience was generous with laughter and applause. We start rehearsals again on Saturday for another show on Dec 15th.
We got a huge thunder/rain storm too. Trees blew down etc, but the amount of rain we got was really good, and helped by adding to our water storage areas (very low)
Sunday afternoon I went to a lovely celebration party. My long time friend Ruth's husband was celebrating 50 years of being in Australia (he was born in England) It was a total surprise to him.The party I mean.He was really overhelmed, and how Ruth and her family managed to keep it all secret is a marvel. All their children/grandchildren came and lots of 'old' friends including me, my daughter and husband, and one of my sons.
The food was fabulous.. all sorts of hot and cold savories that just kept on coming, followed by wicked desserts.
Hope this has been a good week for you Tina.. and Phyliss.. we haven't heard about the wedding yet!
Hugs,
Ellie.

Hi Ellie & Tina,
You haven't heard from me in a while as my internet provider changed hands and the new internet provider would not work on my old computer. I enlisted the help of my sister's brother-in-law and purchased a brand new computer and printer. I am happy to report that it is up and running. I also have gone to DSL instead of dial up version of connection. What a difference that make!
I am catching up on everything and will write in detail about the wedding.
I am happy Tina that you had a wonderful time on your trip.
I look forward to chatting with both of you and enjoy reading of your adventures.
Fondly,

Everyone must be really busy, Phyllis I hope the week-end storm did not have a bad effect on your area.We fared out all right, I was afraid that 140 km winds would take down some of the trees in our yard. All around us in neighboring towns there was damage done but not drastic.A few roads washed out in spots right by the ocean.
I speak all lot about myself on our cyber chats, after going back over our old posts the other day I realized that I am glad I am so vain because I now have sort of a dairy of myself and our old cyberspace friends and of each other. It gives a nice feeling of kinship.Gee Ellie you can even write a story about us. lol !

What a wonderful 4 day trip we had to Cape Breton, the mountains were like bouquets of reds, yellows, orange and green, a bit scary having to drive in second gear coming down some of the foothills/mountains but oh so pretty.
Bo my puppy was a great traveller,my Granddaughter learned not only the beauty of that area but as we stopped in the small towns at night we went to craft stores where she was shown how to hook rugs, how one place made hats, how some native Indian crafts were made and other things. We did not feel guilty about taking her out of school for a few days.
My family booked a local restaurant that is closed for the season, they booked the staff as well for a big birthday party "all relatives" for me. The food was great and having all the children and grandchildren there was absolutely wonderful.
I went on a day trip the day before yesterday and am going on another today..Had chemo Friday but felt pretty good all week except for Tuesday. I have been keeping so busy , it's wonderful. We do have winter coming soon so I may as well enjoy travelling all I can now especially since I don't have to do the driving-lol . My one daughter has business appointments in these other towns so I go along for the trip and roam stores while she is at meetings. The trip to Cape Breton was a gift to me from her and her daughter.Cynthia has always done such wonderful things to make me happy. They all make me happy but Cynthia and Kevin "one of the twins" always go that extra mile to make the world a better, happier place for everyone.
It pleases me so much that all my children are so nice to people and must confess I swell with pride when someone praises my children to me.
Well I suppose I have done enough bragging for today and must tell you that I do hope you are having a great time and that your weather is letting you get to the things you like to do.

Hi Tina and Phyliss (and anyone lurking, bit strange having a 'board' where only 3 people write, but Hey, we three do a good job of it! Tina, I hope you are having a lovely time with your friend from Vancouver, and my prayers are that you will be really well enough after your chemo to enjoy your three days at Cape Breton.
I will be away for that time too. It's our annual writing residential conference again, this time at a lovely country town called Mansfield. Four of us Melbourne writers are going( writers come from different areas across the state) We four will stay at a hotel called the Delatite, Friday and Sat night, and go to writing workshops Sat and Sunday morning.. I always look foward to these writing retreats and meeting up with country friends.
This afternoon I went out to see a film with my daughter, and son-inlaw.. I had 2 movie gift vouchers from my birthday way back in Feb! They run out soon, so it was time to use them up. We had coffee afterwards and just a nice time talking together.Phyliss.. I didn't look back at the former mails to check on the date of the wedding. I know it must be soon (maybe it was even this weekend) I hope the weather is beautiful and everything goes perfectly! Lovely sunny weather today, but yesterday was freezing,, Spring is nothing if not capricious!
Have a very good week.
Hugs,
Ellie.

- so much to do... -- Tina Swinimer, 13:06:51 10/04/07 Thu (hlfx54-1-18.ns.sympatico.ca/142.177.104.18)
My old school chum is home from Vancover , British Columbia once again, we went for our traditional chinese food feast and then I drove her to a beautiful beach where we sat and reminiced , we will be going to other things before she goes home.
I plan on going to the big Fair near the city this week-end,Sadly have to go to a funeral tomorrow, my husbands niece 47 yrs old died suddenly at 3 am Tues morning of high blood pressure, never was ill that she or anyone knew of so it was a real shock, her father is just recovering from having his stomache removed because of cancer.
Cynthia,Darlene , Zoe and i and a friend plus my puppy are planning a driving trip to Cape Breton for 3 days.
I have my chemo again on the 12th, we plan on going Oct. 21st so I should be over the ravages of that chemo by then.
The chemo I am getting now is for "pallative care" meaning there is no cure, just a treatment to improve my quality of life until that too fails to help so I want to keep on making the best of each day until that time comes.I could have as much as a year . Mentally I will aim for that year.
I get one more invasive chemo then a scan, if the chemo is slowing the cancer growth they will give me some more treatments,if it is not slowing the growth they will stop treatment and leave things to nature and God.
My poor puppy is not a happy camper, he was neutered day before yesterday, he has to wear a big plastic cone collar so that he cannot lick where he was stitched, he is feeling very sorry for himself and my heart goes out to him.
We are supposed to have sunny days for the next 4 days,we had some rain through the night so that will continue to let everything stay nice and green.
Ellie I could just picture your cat sleeping and snoring-lol
All the best to you ladies!

A cold Spring day today, cold wind, grey skies, but the gardens around here are so pretty just now with all different sorts and colors of flowers, even the weeds (yellow and white daisies growing on verges and spare land) are pretty. My grey cat is sleeping in my wardrobe, and she's snoring!

Good Morning Ellie & Tina,
I just wanted to share with you that my son & his fiancee are getting married here in town. They will be arriving 5 days before the wedding. The wedding ceremony will be performed outside, weather permitting on October 13. It will be at the Audubon Society. Both my son and his bride-to-be are nature lovers and enjoy hiking and skiing and all outdoor activities. My son's best friend's sister who is a Justice of the Peace will be performing the ceremony. They have made all the arrangement long distance via e-mails and telephone calls as they live in Colorado.
I am so looking forward to having all our family and friends to share in their celebration. I have known for a while, but have not written as they recently finalized all the details. The Audubon Society has a banquet facility room. They have hired a caterer called "Celebrations" for the meal.
I will keep in touch.
Sending my best and happy to share this wonderful exciting time in our families lifes.

- Friday woes -- Tina Swinimer, 12:30:58 09/23/07 Sun (hlfx25-58.ns.sympatico.ca/142.177.75.58)
Friday I went to Halifax for my chemo, they give chemo in Bridgewater,10 minutes from here but are not equipped with staff to moniter this type of invasive that some of us get so hence the 1 hour drive to the city.First you are given the once over by 3 doctors, after that they write your current dosage in a folder which you take to the 11th floor
dispensory, then you are taken to the chemo room.
first thing that went wrong, they came to the waiting room, called me to this little examining room,I was in this room 2 hours thinking "what is wrong, did they forget me"
on opening my door looking down the hall couldn't see anyone to ask." Well finally 2 doctors showed up in my room for the examinations, which are emabarrasingly invasive." seems on Doctor became ill and it slowed everything down. Finally got up to 11th floor for my chemo
-just when the chemo bag only had 2cc left to go into my body, I had a bad reaction. Feet and hands got all red, felt like millions of ants were biting me.They had to start a benedryl drip in my arm before my breathing was cut off. Well after I cooled off had to sit with a saline drip for another half hour.By this time it was eleven hours since I had eaten and was feeling faint from the drips and lack of food.Well we finally got out of the hospital,My daughters and I, they were hungry but had some refreshment downstairs at the cafeteria,I wasn't allowed any at that point because of my chemo reaction. The girls took me to a restaurant that serves home style cooked meals. It was delicious.Chemo makes me ravenous hungry-most people it makes throw up.
Yesterday , sat. I felt fairly good, I am a bit shakey today, well it is only 6:16 am and I just took my pills so
I may improve as the day goes on.Bo is doing all he can to help, poor puppy is trying to sleep on a chair next to me but I swear he can feel my state of health. The way he looks up into my face you can almost feel he understands.
Well forgive me girls because this has been all about me but it does help me by being able to vent my feelings.
By the way I can still have chemo but now it will have to be accompanied by a benedryl drip and a nurse all the while the chemo is administrated.
Our church yard sale is Sat. I have been growing for tropical house plants all
year for them so I have 9 nice big plants to donate.Plus I have some household articles to donate but I am afraid I may not be able to help them on sale day.
Yesterday was the last day of summer, the octobesfest days start in Mahone Bay where almost every lawn will have a spookie scene on it. So many tourists will be in town to view all this, also graveyard walks where they are led on 2 nights 2 tours each night, a narrator tell spookie stories as the are led through the 200 year old graveyard. The path to the graveyard is lined with carved lit pumpkins. wish you were here!!
Once again ladies-have a great week !

Oh you lucky ladies, I have no young little ones left, they are grown up except for Zoe who is eleven. I enjoyed my years of childrens events and miss them now.
I have had a good week, feeling good, weather good , travelled around locally and must confess we ate out at restaurants a bit often.
This morning I go to Lunenburg for blood tests and if my blood test shows that I can stand a good dose of chemo, they will fax Halifax cancer hosp. and I will get a call to go in tomorrow to Halifax for one of the strong doses of chemo , mixed thoughts go through my head knowing
that I will feel miserable for a few days but know it is a necessary evil.
Lunenburg is only 10 minutes from here, named so because most people are decendants of Germany. It is the home of the famed Bluenose sailing vessel that was a champion racer and is featured on back of our dimes.
Bo is still charming us with his little winning ways,Ralston left his false teeth where he shouldn't have on a table by his bed, Bo came out of the bedroom wearing Ralstons teeth, they sure looked funny sticking out of Bo' little mouth-lol
HOpe you ladies are still having fun and enjoying as good weather as we have had this week.

Me too Phyliss. Last Thursday a bunch of us Moms, Grandma's. and great Grandma's (me) went to a childrens interactive centre too. There was my daughter, and her daughter, and my little great grandaughter, plus my daughter in law and her little girl, plus my longest time friend, and her grandaughter. The three little girls are all of an age, 20 months-- 2 years, Jemillah, Matilda and Ella (my friends grandaughter) they all looked so cuuute! There were lots of things to play with, and a cafe/snack bar where the Mommies could get tea/coffee/ muffins etc.
The place also hosts childrens birthday parties, and there were two happening while we were there, so it was very full and VERY noisy. Stiil it was a good day.
Tina.. I hope this is a good week for you.. thinking of you.
Ellie.

Hi Tina & Ellie,
Tina, I just read your lastest posting and hope that you are having a better week with no pain. Thank goodness you have Bo by your side and I know cuddling with him is good medicine.
I hope, Ellie, that you are having a good week.
My daughter, Kaitlyn and I went to listen to a story teller in the evening at a children's play center last week. The story teller also played the accordian to the delight of the group of young children. It was so adorable to watch Kaitlyn holding on to a young boy's hand as they danced in a circle.
The play center has many activities for young children. It has a tea shop, bakery shop, beauty parlor, stuffed animals in a pet shop, little stage with costumes, pirates ship with a slide and also an area for painting. It is located right in the center of our city. They charge a fee to attend. Also one can get a family membership for the year. It provides children with fun especially when the weather is not good for outside play.
Our weather has been pretty good. Cool in the evenings, but nice during the day.
Please keep in touch.
Phyllis

Ellie,
Thank you for the suggestion that if Tina does not feel like writing us at times, her family will keep in touch as we care very much for Tina.
Both you gals, are very special and I look forward to your keeping me up to date.

Tina, I wish you weren't so organized! It's making my heart sad that you are already planning who to give your lovebirds to. However, it's not my business, and you must do what you think is fit. It's great that you are joining the painting class and I hope that it brings you pleasure, and that you keep on being well enough to go.
Will you promise me (us) something? If your chemo makes you too sick to write here, can one of your lovely children update us on things?
We have never met Tina, but I feel as tho you are a dear friend.
I'm glad Bo is bringing such joy into your life. My nephew in Canada, and his girlfriend, have just got a new puppy too.. haven't seen a pic of him yet, but am told he is soooo cute. They named him Dobby (because of his ears and the little Dobby thing in the Harry Potter movies)
Hugs,
Ellie.

We all have busy lives and our families, pets our priorities so don't ever feel guilty about neglecting anything else.By the time we are Grandmothers we need to share our time with our grown children,Grandchildren, pets and squeeze in other things later.
I haven't been painting for a while, so to get myself motivated I am signing up for classes,I told the instructress "I may die on you in a month or I may get the year in,so if you'll take me on that basis okey!" I know she wants full class at each session, which is every Thursday.Since my chemos are on Fridays I should be ok on thursdays, the 3rd,4th and 5th days are my bad days as they were 4 years ago and again last year. There are as many different chemo treatments as there are different cancers so reactions for people are so different from one another so if anyone faces having to have chemo they should never fear that they will have the same reaction as another person,I know girls who are getting chemo for breast cancer and they are working as waitresses etc without missing any work time except their chemo treatment day. Some get small doses daily, some have a feed fastened to their chest and have the feed re-filled once a week or so.This is why I feel I should not complain and scare people from their potential lifesaver.
We have been having wonderful weather so I feel sure Phillis has been enjoying the good weather as well.Ellie
I wish I could move there for the winter and start my summer all over again-lol
MY dog walks are shorter but I try to take Bo on 2 or 3 short walks daily and that seems to satisfy him versus one long walk,oh he is a joy to both my husband and I, if we would have written an order for perfection in a puppy, well he just about fills the bill. Before we got him I made sure of his being taken good care of by family members if my husband gets ill after I have departed and can't look after him. There are no other pets here now except 3 love birds and I am looking for a proper person to give them to.
I always was one to do things "ahead of time"never late for work, always early for work, parties, etc. What a chore when your husband always likes to be fashionably late lol.
I must scram and get dressed as it is 7 am and I like to get lots of things done before hubby gets out of bed.Have a great week ladies.

Hi Tina. Sorry I haven't got caught up, didn't even asnwer your mail about the not good news re your check-up, and I'm really sorry about that. You can be assured that my love and thoughts are with you. I am so glad you were well enough to go to the wedding, and that everything turned out so perfectly.
My only excuse for not writing sooner is that I had a bit of a horrendous week myself, and felt pretty down.
However your perfect wedding day co-incided with a perfect one here, for my great grandaughter Jemillah's second birthday. The weather was beautiful and we had a family outing to the Collingwood Childrens Farm where there are all sorts of animals, sheep and baby lambs, ponies, goats, hens, ducks, etc. We had a picnic basket lunch, and the little ones had a ball looking at all the animals. (the adults had a ball too!)
Hi Phyliss! Will catch up again soon.
Hugs,
Ellie.

- wonderful wedding -- tina swinimer, 12:18:48 09/02/07 Sun (hlfx26-102.ns.sympatico.ca/142.177.76.102)
Exceeding all dreams, what a wonderful wedding my oldest granddaughter and her man had yesterday. The sun shone, everyone looked beautiful, my youngest granddaughter sang beautifully as the wedding was starting, the brides dad sang after the vows as did her uncle.
The church was packed with friends and relatives and after church the reception was at the lutheran camp grounds, log chapel, delicious foods in a big open cabana type building. All by the beautiful Mush-a-mush lake, actually a few miles up the lake from where our summer camping area is.
I thank God for this wonderful day we had yesterday and that all my family was able to be there as well as everyone else.
Forgot to mention a pig roast was also part of the the food menu-lol
I just had to share all this with you, I am so hepped up yet from the joy that all went to perfection.

Well girls I got my results and they are very bad. I have
several cancerous tumors in the lower abdomen.I go back to the city today to start my chemo.Actually the results are so bad I think the chemo is just to prolong life this time and not much chance of curing but time will tell.
MY biggest prayer right now is that I feel well enough to enjoy my oldest grandaughters wedding on Saturday, she has cystic fibrosis and has had her battle with health and I want every happiness for her.My youngest granddaughter will sing while Laura walks down the aisle in church.
I have had a marvelous summer and those memories will sustain me through this ordeal this fall.
I hope all is going great for you and yours!

Dear Tina. Phyliss's message and thoughts echo my own.You are such a joy to hear from, and have proved to be such a postive lady, so keep up that positivity as much as you are able to. I don't need to tell you of course that you are so fortunate to have a large, loving, caring family to support you as well ss the beauties of nature around you, and I know there is peace and healing there.
Hugs.

Tina, will be thinking of you when you go for your check-up, and my thoughts for you are winging your way, that everything is going well. Lovely that your daughters (2) are going with you. Congratulations too for your beautiful grandaughters up coming wedding.Love to hear about it aftewards!
Weather here is still wintery, last few days have been very windy, gusty gale force.. Sept begins our Spring.
I got my day out with my friend Ruth on Monday, and we had a great time. We drove up into the Dandenongs, our closest mountain range. Everthing still winter bare, but beautiful. We had Devonshire tea, hot scones, raspberry jam and cream at a lovely cafe, then went to visit the William Rickett's Sanctuary.. This is a sanctuary created by a famous Sculptor William Ricketts.. he did beautiful rock carvings of our indigenous, aboriginal people, and they're all set in a forest of towering green tree ferns, just beautiful, green and peaceful.
My second son in Sydney has had an awful flu, there is so much of it around here just now.
I'm busy with rehearsals for a play that is being performed in Oct. Fun, but hectic!
Phyliss, hope all is well with you.missing your messages!
Ellie.

- weather and things -- Tina Swinimer, 13:26:30 08/09/07 Thu (hlfx52-2b-37.ns.sympatico.ca/142.177.7.37)
Well! A cool, almost cold morning after a thunder/lightening storm last night. We have had so many hot days which I mostly enjoyed for going swimming,we were lucky by having the occaisional day of rain because everything is so nice and green, flowers have been beautiful all summer.
MY cancer checkup day is tomorrow so my 2 daughters and I are going to the city, hope to shop and have a good meal of something different than the bill of fare of our local eating places, knowing me I may weaken and have chinese food-lol.
My puppy Bo has bought us joy beyond explaining this summer, through the years we have had dogs we dearly loved but Bo is love, comedy and new surprises every day.He has a stuffed toy cat larger than he is,tries to get it to play with his other toys, jumps on it,pulls it,then gives up by putting all his toys on top of it.He has never messed or peed in the house, wonderful traveller and beach companion. We never cease being amazed by him,I thought I knew everything about dogs but this little wiggly bundle has taught us how different some dogs can be.Hunt up Japanese chin on the net..he is the perfect picture of his species but sure behaves 100% better than they tell you to expect from a chin pup.
Phyllis, haven't heard from you for ages, hope you are having a great summer.Ellie I hope you have had no harsh weather, the world seems to have turned topsy turby weather wise so we seem to have to adapt to surprises and changes all the time.
My oldest Granddaughter gets married Sept. 1st so I am hoping the weather is good at that time.Camping will be over for most at that time so she has rented the Lutheran church camp grounds so people from away can stay in the cottages, the chapel is beautiful, even a big fireplace inthe log building, she is the one who has cystic fibrosis so I am praying for great happiness for her,one time cf folks didn't live past their teens, she is 28 and so beautiful , cf people all seem to be so extra intelligent ,she has always made the best of every day to make every day count but never dwells on her illness, most of her freinds would be shocked to learn she has cf..they have no idea, she doesn't want to play on friends sympathy so she doesnt mention it.
Well girls, hope kitties, kids and grandkids are all fine and that you are enjoying yourselves.Bye for now! ps I never re-check for spelling of other mistakes so please put up with me-lol
