Ya know, President Bush delivered a fine speech, all-in-all. I disagree with his assessment of Social Security's "dire" situation, when Medicaid threatens to strangle the nation's economy much sooner, but it's a bigger battle and I think, for political reasons, nobody wants to tackle it and look bad failing, so SS is the easier, bigger-and-easier-to-handle problem.
What I did take GREAT offense to, however, was Louisiana congressman Bobby Jindal orchestrating the "dipped finger" stunt to present this visual one-upmanship from the right side of the aisle.
Last I checked, Mr. Jindal hadn't served a day in the military. Most of those who joined him in his inked-finger presentation have no military background, either. If ANYBODY had a right to join the Iraqis who bravely went to the polls, it would be our servicemen and women who have either sacrificed time, life or limb in Iraq to liberate that country.
Bobby's cheap political ploy was disgusting. I'm sick and tired of this GOP vs. Democrat "show" in Washington. This sort of visual aid he chose to piece together is the very kind of arrogant "so THERE!" sort of childish actions that I believe sicken many Americans. It wasn't a display of solidarity with Iraqi citizens; it was a display of support for Bush's Iraq policy.
Here's an idea, Mr. Jindal...instead of harumphing the success of the Iraqis going to the polls, why don't you and your co-horts work on a policy that requires the United States' leadershp to have an actual post-invasion and exit strategy at least drawn up before we go gun-toting into nations under vague (and what turned out to be false) assumptions.
Mr. Jindal should spend a little time in Washington before showing his obvious immaturity for the position with such 'frat-house-style' pranks.
